This is a small, developed camping area in a grassy meadow, right on the banks of the Rio Grande River. It is not recommended for large RVs or long/wide trailers because the access road going down into the site is narrow and steep. The area offers fishing access to the Rio Grande River, and is a put in – take out point for summer rafting. Even though the grounds sit next to State highway 149, there is little highway noise as the campsites sit down below the road in the river bottom. The river is very near the campground and is a safety hazard to children if unsupervised. Be careful. The area has 7 camp sites with picnic tables and fireplace rings. Three sites are gravel pull-throughs and four sites are dead-end gravel spurs. Download campsite descriptions (.docx).Elevation is 8,800 feet. A volunteer host is on-site.Camping limit is 14 days.Amenities: No trash facilities, you must Pack Out all Trash. No potable water. Vault toilets are available.

We just wanted a spot to relax by the river for the night and this fit the bill. Only $10, newer pit toilets and the picnic tables at each site appear to be new as well. We arrived on a Wed about 2 with a few sites to pick from by by 5, all were full. We had our van on this trip and wouldn't risk pulling our 30' trailer in - the turn around is pretty tight. Despite being right off the highway, between the hill behind the campsite and the river, I did not hear any cars at all.

Nice little USFS campground on the bank of the Rio Grande river. Most (all?) of the sites are within sight and earshot of the river, so although this campground is not far off highway 149, you can't hear the road at all. Very popular with fishermen.
Downsides are about what you'd expect from a free campground: no drinking water, no trash service, etc. The pit toilet is also quite primitive.
Also, the last part of the entrance road is narrow with curves and some steep dips. Large RVs (or those with a lot of overhang) may not do well. And the turnaround at the end of the campground is quite tight; full-size pickups need to reverse to make the turn, which is problematic if you're towing anything.

This is a great site right off the river. There are about 6 or 7? designated camp sites along this little stretch of road. Each site comes with its own wooden picnic table (handicap accessible) and metal fire grate. Outhouses are provided (men's & women's separate). We've stayed here on 2 separate occasions and enjoyed it both times. Like the previous review, most if not all the sites have access to the river. Popular spot for anglers. Close enough to town if you wanted to set up camp and drive into Creede to check out the town, stock up, or have a meal.

In COVID times, this place was packed, and I stayed on a spot that wasn't technically even a spot in order to stay there

Amazing free camping along the Rio Grande River. We stayed 7 nights the last week of July. Temperatures were perfect.Remote, quite but easily accessible.

This was a real treat. We barely fit, so definitely not for a class A longer than our 33 feet, but such a place! The drive to the headwaters of the Rio Grande - the 3rd longest river in the US- is just a short distance away. Would definitely come again if in the area.

I got there at about noon on 8/24/20. There are 7 sites. All taken. It was next to a nice river. But my phone did not get any signal. I went to Comstock Campground afterwards.

Amazing that this is a free campsite. We camped in site #1 which could host 1 45 foot class A but the other sites are all much smaller. All but one will pushed to host anything beyond 25 feed. This is a really nice location directly on the Rio Grande. Lots of bird activity there. We really enjoyed camping here. This is close to the road but we had no issues with nose.

The sites are more spread out here than Marshall Park. #1 and 7 can hold a bigger rig. The toilets are permanently closed. There is a portapotty down the road just past the Marshall Park CG at the rafting access/OHV parking. Picnic table and fire ring. We pulled in late Thursday morning and it filled up a short time later. There's a couple good boondocking spots not too far off the highway at Seepage Rd if this is full. There's a dump station in Creede just below the town park with water, $5. There's a nice raft ramp here. The one at the bridge downstream and the one out Middle Creek Rd are not so great. The road in is a little narrow, but fine. No road noise and you can't see the houses across the river so it feels remote. My phone kept saying I had 3 bars LTE of T-Mobile, but it was VERY slow. It and Verizon were fine in Creede.

There are brand new pit toilets here as of 4/21. They are very clean. Nice location to Creede. 3 of the sites are large enough for bigger RVs. Road off blacktop is about 1/2 mile of gravel and some of it is steep. Not many of the sites are level.
