It was hot the day we went so the mist from the waterfall felt wonderful. We only had a couple of hour to explore, and it didn't feel like enough time. We'll definitely plan a return trip next summer.
We were sent to the falls by the KOA staff in Silt. Had a lovely time hiking around the falls and caves. Mostly, it was great not having to deal with the crowds since the State Park limits the numbers of visitors to the capacity of their little parking lot.
Tip - go early, especially in the morning months, to ensure your ability to park.
It looked like the campsites were well shaded and level. Fish were visible in the river and there were some very helpful locals more than willing to assist anyone who needed assistance.
Rifle Falls is an excellent stop. We have a family with teenagers to toddlers and everyone seemed to enjoy the beauty of the park and the chance to explore the caves. If you plan to be in the area I highly recommend adding Rifle Falls to your trip.
Rifle Falls State Park is the closest you'll get to the tropics in Colorado. The falls is a lush area of trees and greenery kept moist by the spray of the cascading triple waterfall. The park's lush vegetation and waterfalls have attracted photographers and movie crews from around the country who take advantage of the area's unique scenery. Mysterious limestone caves beneath the falls entice spelunkers and other curious visitors to explore their dark depths. Simply breathtaking.
