“small facility with 17 sites”
The Chalk Creek Canyon is one of the valley's most popular areas. Mount Princeton campground is a small facility with 17 sites. A recent mountain pine beetle infestation caused many of the older ponderosa pines to die, so shade is not readily available in this campground. No RV`s hookups, showers or running water are available.

Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on January 05, 2021Beautiful setting at the start of Chalk Creek Canyon. Fall Colors are great here! The ghost town of St Elmo is further up the road and worth a quick visit for the scenery and a taste of an early gold mining town.
The campground is very accessible on a good dirt road, 8.5 miles from the highway. About half the sites will accomodate 25-30' rigs. Sites are fairly well spaced, reasonably flat, with nice picnic table areas. We stayed on a Friday night in late September, so it was quiet for us.
Too shady for solar; it will be a max 3 day stay for us if we go again.

Our site backed up to the creek. This is a wonderful, well kept campground. Bathrooms were clean. Camp host was not there in late September. We came in on on Sunday and had many sites to pick from.

We enjoyed our stay at Mount Princeton Campground. It is a forest service site. There is no electricity or water hook-ups. The area is beautiful, typical of subalpine areas with cool breezes at night and the night sky is breathtaking. Campground host was friendly and helpful. Will definitely visit again.
