Nice little spot on the Rio Grand River with a bathroom, dumpster, firewood, fire ring and picnic table. Normally boondock, but the Rio Grand boondocking spot was full.

We and our camping partners snagged the last two reservable sites available on short notice at this quiet, no frills campground and loved the stay. Level campsites with tables and fire pits. We were located right across from the vaulted toilets which were clean, sanitary and odorless. The campground is adjacent to the Rio Grand River and several campsites back right up to the river. We enjoyed our short stay there and as a bonus, Creede, just up the road about 6 miles has a dump station with potable water for a donation fee! The dump station is located about 1/4 mile from the visitors center, same side of road, going back towards the campground down a gravel road about 400 yards. Next time I’m going fishing!

The river was flowing a stone's throw from my campsite. I enjoyed watching someone fly fish even though I didn't see him catch anything. I sent for a short hike on the hill/ridge above the campground and then hiked to Inspiration Point (out of Creede) the next morning.

This beautiful location along the Rio Grande River is a first-come, first-served national forest campground. Our site (I don't remember our number) had a lot of space. It was fantastic to have white noise as we slept! The vault toilets were absolutely the cleanest I have ever seen. Lou (camp host) takes great pride in keeping things ship-shape.
Shade is your friend during the day in this hot canyon, but it's so windy you probably don't want to keep your awning up. I took my lawn chair closer to the river, found a good shade tree, and read for several hours.
In July, 2020, Google maps tried to take us in the old entrance off of Middle Creek Road. Ignore Google maps! The entrance is directly off of 149 highway; you will see the Marshall Campground sign.

Most of the sites are next to the Rio Grande, maybe 20 to 40 feet away
Some of the sites are reservable online. Others are First come First served.
Low number sites catch the morning sun earlier than others.
The river is full and fast flowing. You can barely hear traffic from across the river and cannot hear the highway traffic
Verizon service is bad to hopeless

Had a great time camping here. Beauty, space, grounds were well taken care of. Only complaint, more like a question, why do campers have to have sooo many dogs? Not just one but two, three and even more. When one barks they ALL start barking and it always has to be at like, 6am.
Outside of being woken at 6am by a chorus of dogs it was great.

I'm seldom one to criticize but this campground has fallen into disrepair. The manual water pump was taken out of service since our last visit several years ago, its still there but handle removed so it's not working. New pit toilets have been installed in the last year but the sites and fixtures, e.g. picnic tables sagging so badly they are unsafe to use, fire rings, etc are in sad condition. Weeds now crowd the loop through the campground and it's obvious the campground is receiving absolutely no maintenance. Its a terrible state for a campground in such a gorgeous setting. Oh, and the current operating concessionaire requires CASH only, a common way to maximize revenue while underreporting revenue to the Forest Service. Seems consistent with what we saw.
