The Clearwater Falls Campground is located along the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway corridor. Here the Clearwater River dances through old growth Douglas-fir forest painting a picture in bright, moist greens and froths of white. Facilities include 12 campsites, picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets and a picnic area that includes eight sites, picnic tables and fire rings.

We stumbled upon this gorgeous spot by accident. There are 8 sites accessible through the Clearwater Falls entrance and 8 more on top of the falls (there is no indication whatsoever for this section and you will likely have it to yourself! Just keep driving East after the Clearwater Falls campground an turn on the first road on the right, then right again. You'll find it. I would not drive a big rig there without checking with a tow first.

At the Clearwater Falls entrance, you will see a sign that says Trailers 25 feet or longer to the right. DO NOT engage in that road, there is no turnaround at the bottom of the hill (ask me how I know!). The best thing to do would be to back up in this little pullout and walk down to see the falls and check the campground. This is actually where we camped while we were there (not a campsite) since the connexion was better there than down at the campground. You could drive down with a big rig and turn around in the Day Use parking lot IF it is empty (but I recommend you check before!). The sites are short and not leveled, but nice (we could have probably fitted the bus in one with boards to level it) There were two sites that would have been big enough at the upper fall campground (you can check that campground from the lower one, by hiking up beside the falls, you will see the restrooms across the little lake from there and the trail to get there, it's very close).

There is a well-maintained outhouse in the day use area by the falls and a garbage can. The water from the river is freezing cold!

We were there during the forest fires, so there was nobody.
The Umpqua River Trail was closed (it's a beautiful mountain biking or hiking trail) as well as the Umpqua Hot Springs access trail (30 minutes). You should go (early on a weekday!) if you have a chance during your stay.

As a previous reviewer said the signs are misleading. The sign that says no trailers over 25 feet is I’m guessing indicating that the parking lot to the left at the bottom of the hill does not have a turnaround. I went ahead and pulled all 29 feet down the hill and into the campground area. There was only one spot that would have potentially accommodated me and it was occupied so I moved on. For my purpose with a trailer this wasn’t really a useable option, this is more of a tent place. That said it would be a wonderful quiet spot but beware you don’t get abducted by mosquitoes. They were at my window in a cloud as soon as I stopped the car.
