Clayton Lake State Park

We stumbled into our reservation here solely due to placement on our route and drive time for the day. It’s a gem of stop though! The Dino footprints were super interesting and our site on Peach Point was picturesque and clean. It was a primitive site with no hooks ups but there were several other electric site areas in the park. Site had a great fire ring w grill and a covered picnic table with an elevated view of the lake. The night sky was phenomenal and we saw a meteor re-entering the atmosphere while we were there! Downsides were there were a TON of flies (they bugged off once the fire got going) and they do allow generators so that slightly cramped our night sky viewing mojo due to our neighbor’s use of one. Can’t beat it for the $14 price tag, though. Oh, and be aware, Roadtrippers navigation gets you to the first sign for the park. The campground is another 20 mins off the main road.

Note: The GPS for the Roadtrippers attraction is just where to turn off from US Hwy 64 / State Hwy 87. You must still travel another 12 miles to Clayton Lake State Park to see the dinosaur tracks. Enjoy!

A nice little desert oasis. The main attraction, of course, is the dinosaur footprints. There's a lovely interpretive boardwalk that takes you around and helps you view those elements that a paleontologist might see. Very cool. Note that the prints are more visible in morning or evening, and flatten at high noon.

This place is absolutely beautiful with great camping spots and showering facilities! A perfect stop along with the dinosaur foot prints!
