“established 1884”
Today, you'll be pleased to discover a friendly staff, with the same warm smiles which have welcomed our guests since 1884. Each is dedicated to provide the utmost in personal, attentive and gracious service throughout your stay. In the early 1800's, the area surrounding Highland Springs Resort was known as the San Gorgonio Rancho, an outpost for the San Gabriel Mission. A large portion of the area was a Spanish Land Grant made to a man by the name of Paulino Weaver. In 1853, Weaver sold some of his land to Dr. Isaac William Smith, who was struck by the land's natural beauty while looking for stray cattle. Dr. Smith purchased a 1000 acres for a 1000 dollars from Weaver and established Smith Ranch. The original Smith residence stood near where the swimming pool does today. In 1862, Smith's ranch was dubbed "Smith Station" and was made a stagecoach stop. The Butterfield Overland Stage line ran coaches from San Bernardino, stopped at the ranch, and then continued on up the Bradshaw Trail on their way to Yuma, Arizona. The Grand Oak Steakhouse & Bar represents the intersection of the resort's hotel and dining services with 123 Farm's 100% organic crop production.
