“Being your journey of the Great Smokey Mountains”
The adjacent Mountain Farm Museum contains a fascinating collection of log structures including a farmhouse, barn, smokehouse, applehouse, corn cribs and others. Demonstrations of farm life and ranger-led tours are conducted seasonally.Great Smoky Mountains Association bookstore and shop. Public restrooms and telephones. Soda and water machines. Backcountry permit station.
This beautiful visitor center just inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a must-see. The accommodations of the Visitor Center itself are wonderful - clean bathrooms, attentive and personable staff, plenty of wonderful merchandise to commemorate your trip - but the river walk and the frequent wildlife steal the show. Your best chance as seeing elk are in the fields immediately surrounding the nature center, and very often they are accompanied by turkey. Just be mindful of the signs - the fields are closed (with good reason) when the elk are present.
