“winter wonder land”
Walt Haring Sno-Park is conveniently located 5 minutes northwest of Chemult, Oregon. Known for the Chemult Sled Dog Races the third weekend of every January, Walt Haring offers multiple snowmobile and nordic ski trails. The trailhead, elevation 4,800 feet, sits on the eastern edge of the Cascade Range, serving up cold, powdery snow and crisp, sunny days. It’s a lively ride on your snowmobile to pristine Miller Lake, just 12 miles from the Sno-Park. The snowmobile trail clearly connects to a larger network of trails. The multiple cross country ski trails are groomed sporadically by volunteers each winter. Groomed or ungroomed, they offer a classic skiing experience. The generally easy trails cut through a pine plantation and mature ponderosas. Two hilltops, one beginner and one moderate, offer views of Mount Thielsen and surrounding peaks. The trails are usually covered with snow from mid-December through mid-March. Campground: Campers are welcome at Walt Haring year-round at any of the 10 campsites. The four vaulted toilets, at Walt Haring Sno-Park, receive year round maintenance. However, the trailer dump station and potable water are available only during the summer time. You can also use the picnic tables and fire grates for picnicking and relaxing. The spacious, log-style warming hut offers shelter, a wood stove, and benches on a first come, first served basis. Walt Haring is often used for hunting camps in the fall. For more information on the Walt Haring Sno-Park, contact the Chemult Ranger District (541) 365-7001.

This sno-park also has a dump station in the summer.
I couldn't actually find camp site numbers but I stayed 2 nights, really quite. Private no one bothered me. Lots of other people pulled in at night for the night only. I have n all America pass so I only payed $3.00 it is $6.00 otherwise. Has an RV dump whit a water for clean out. Has also Clean drinking water. Water is by the group site or by the restrooms. 2 places to fill. It looked like one abandoned car in the lot. No one came to it or moved it. I will be staying here again as I make lots of trips from Arizona to Nevada and o to Oregon. Only 4 miles to the cute little town of Chemult. that has propane in two locations I use the Chevrons because it was easier to pull into. I got good wifi on my tablet, phone and my hot spot worked well so I could use my computer. I have Verizon.

Right off the highway in the woods. Still some snow on the ground, was fun for the kids to play in! It is a large parking lot, two of them actually) that they made into camping spots/tent spots. Spots have picnic table and camp fire ring. Because the ground was wet, it was nice to have the cement as our camping spot and the woods right outside our door. There are pit toilets, two on each side- and a little lodge with a wood fire stove inside. The rangers are so kind- they were here cleaning one of the first days we arrived. We checked with them about payment as the box/envelopes were not there yet and she confirmed they're not charging because they are not fully open yet. Water/dump etc. is still off. It was quiet but staff/officials drove through semi frequently just to check up on the place. 1 mile from a small town with a big pilot, laundry mat, mini market, and cafe. The north entrance to crater lake is closed so that was a bummer! Enjoy!

The recent reviews led us to this overnight spot in the woods. There was one ‘long term’ camper repairing a car at their site. Also, the forest service pickup drives through a few times a day.
The paved parking lot made it very easy to level. Quiet night with faint hwy 97 road noise and some train whistles. The fact that all roads are paved to this site is a plus. Easy to maneuver for large rigs and tow vehicles.
We love these remote sites.

This is a nice place. It has about 8 or more campsites some for tents and some for big rigs. There is no assigned campsite number that I can see. We parked on the asphalt where there was a picnic table. This place has a rv dump for $5.00 and plus water spigots in a few places around here.
This is the second time we camped here, we would camp here again if in the area.

Perfect one night stop if your traveling through Oregon, it’s up the road about 0.5miles but super quiet. They do have toilets but we didn’t use them since were in an RV. We came in December & had the place completely to ourselves. During the winter months you are supposed to get a permit but there was no one there checking for them. Spots aren’t marked but there were picnic tables & a fire pit where each spot would be. Definitely recommend this location instead of staying at a truck stop. We were pulling a trailer, about 47ft all together & had no trouble getting in & out

The Walt Haring Sno-Park offers five tent and five picnic sites 4,700 feet elevation. In the winter, the area is a starting point for snow mobile and Nordic skiing adventures while in the summer it offers camping and picnicking. Amenities include piped water, accessible restrooms and an RV dump station. There is no fee for use of the area and sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The following includes descriptions of the trails offered in the Chemult Snowmobile Trail System: Chemult Run Trail #3761 : This trail is an excellent run to the town of Chemult from Diamond Lake. The trail parallels Highway 138 on forest roads for most of its 33 miles (one-way). It consists of gentle terrain with no difficult spots. Its fun to take a run to Diamond Lake for lunch and return to Chemult in the afternoon. The trail travels close to the southern border of the Mount Thielsen Wilderness, but remember, this wilderness area is off-limits to motorized vehicles. Crescent-Chemult Express Trail #3762 : This 33 mile trail (one-way) provides a wide variety of conditions and scenery. Views of Cowhorn Mountain, Tolo Peak, Cappy Mountain, Walker Mountain, and Diamond Peak are intermingled with runs through ponderosa pine and lodgepole pine timber. Approximately one mile of trail west of Big Marsh Creek goes cross-country through an open lodgepole pine stand. Park Boundary / Lake of the Woods Trail #3768 : For a long and isolated trip, this trail runs 46 miles (one-way) from Annie Creek to the Chemult Run, just north of Highway 138. It offers excellent views of Mount Scott and the Klamath Marsh. The trail travels through a wide variety of elevations and snow depths. At times, the trail may be rerouted because of difficulty grooming portions due to impassable snow drifts. Maje sure you have plenty of gasoline with you on this trip as it is a long walk to civilization! Miller Lake Trail #3760 : This trail is 12 miles long (one-way) rising from 4,800 feet to an elevation of 5,750 feet before dropping 100 feet in elevation at the Digit Point Campground on Miller Lake. The first six miles of the trail are wide and easy. For the next six miles, the trail narrows with some winding areas and possible deep snow drifts. On the way to Miller Lake, there are excellent views of many of the peaks on the cascade crest. The lake ice is seldom safe for traveling and motorized use is not allowed around the perimeter of the lake. Deer Creek Loop Trail # 3766 : This is a 15 mile loop which extends into the high country with excellent views into the Little Deschutes River drainage and offers good examples of high elevation forest. Along the trail near Adell Butte, open meadows useable as play areas may be found. Portions of the trail come close to the Mount Thielsen Wilderness boundary. Please observe the nonmotorized restrictions in that area.
