“tall trees and river side spots”
Stay here and ride or take photos of the Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gauge Train as steams over the river on historic bridge by our park. Camp along the Rio Chama with tall trees to shade our grassy sites. Sites have 30 amp or 50 amp service. Big rigs will enjoy the spacious 60 foot drive-thrus sites with room for slideouts. Some sites have BBQ's. 20 river view sites. All have fires rings and picnic tables. Separate area for tenters. There is a railroad car clubhouse on site, a covered picnic shelter and now a new pavilion. Pancake breakfasts served on occasional Saturdays. Angler's will delight in the excellent salmon and trout fishing at nearby Heron Lake and El Vado Lake State Parks. Or fish on site along the Rio Chama known for its trout; there is whitewater rafting on the river. Because of our central location at the southern end of the Rocky Mountains, we are within a day's drive of Santa Fe, Taos, Mesa Verde, Sandia Peak and Pikes Peak. RV supplies available.

We had no problem navigating through the park with our 36’ diesel and a toad.
Friendly staff and lots of nice people.
Lots of great New Mexican style food in Chama is another great reason to stay..

My reservation using the phone was very smooth. Our checkin was quick and easy to include a guide to our site. We visited the local Elk Horn restaurant for lunch and it was delicious. We hiked the local Elk Interpretation Trail for an easy hike. The scenic byway drive on Highway 17 is spectacular.

Very friendly staff and campers here. Great internet service on both Verizon and AT&T devices. Lots of old railroad equipment to look at and next to historic railroad site. On the river. Staff led us to our site by golf cart and we’re very helpful.

A short distance from the town of Chama with an easy walk or bike ride. The sites are nicely snuggled under large trees. A few along the river, but the majority in the main park are a short walking distance to the river. This place was almost eerily quiet. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Wireless exists, but sometimes sporadic.
Chama is small village that is the terminus of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. The railroad was not yet allowed in NM due to virus. Pretty quiet here. A great grocery store in town. There is also an open space park just up the hill from the RV park for hiking, biking and fishing.

We stayed here with a class C Motorhome from 9/20 - 9/22 2020 and found the park overall great for visiting the Cumbres and Toltec RR, which is a short distance from the campground. We had not made reservations and simply called in a few hours before arrival. The lady on the office was very nice, as was the rest of the staff. Bathrooms and showers were closed due to COVID. We had a great 30 Amp site, trees provided ample shade and it was quiet.

Beautiful place under trees right next to the Chama River. Conveniently located next to the village of Chama and the Cumbres and Toltec scenic railroad depot. The steam train crosses its bridge next to the park and is a great photo opportunity. The park is fully staffed, clean, and they’ll even help you park. My spot is a back-in and the staff even helped guide me in. Pull in sites are available. Very quiet place.

Tight spaces but nice and quiet with lots of shade trees. Love how quiet it is. Hope to come back here again!
We used a cell phone booster and Verizon hotspot and we were able to stream Netflix.
Also surprised I could search digital channels on our Roku and there were so many available!

Under new management this year, but as good as ever. Lovely campground near the Chama River with lots of shade trees. Gravel sites are level and most have full hookups. Many are pull-through . Staff is friendly and accommodating. A wonderful place to stay if you are going to ride the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, a great adventure. Elevation about 8,000 feet so it rarely gets over 80 in the summer with overnight lows in the 40s.

If you are into trains this is the place to stay. We came to this park because of a friend’s recommendation. After looking at the other Good Sam parks would stay at Sky Mountain next time.
