“Nebraska's oldest state park!”
Chadron State Park is a state park of Nebraska, USA, containing part of the Pine Ridge. The park is in northwestern Nebraska 9 miles (14 km) south of Chadron, within Nebraska National Forest. It is Nebraska's oldest state park, established in 1921. At 974 acres (394 ha), the park contains a modern campground and 16 cabins. Activities include swimming in a regulation-sized pool, horseback riding, archery, Frisbee golf, hiking, tennis, sand volleyball and fishing. Chadron Creek runs through the park. The park also has rental paddleboats and several hiking trails. Cabins are small with showers and toilet facilities, and a small kitchen with stove and refrigerator and screen porches. The park is fairly heavily wooded with ponderosa pine throughout and cottonwood trees near the creek and lagoon. The majestic beauty of the Pine Ridge forms the backdrop for this great, get away from it all state park, 9 miles south of Chadron on U.S. 385. At an elevation of nearly 5,000 feet, the 972 acre park lies in the heart of the Nebraska National Forest and is dominated by ponderosa pines. There are 22 two bedroom, housekeeping cabins available from mid April to mid November, plus a group camp/conference facility. Chadron boasts a top-notch modern campground with 70 pads all with 30 amp electrical hookups. Excellent hike-bike trails lace the park and adjoining Forest Service lands.

Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on April 25, 2024We stayed only one night on our way to Mt Rushmore but it was gorgeous & clean. We got to pick our spots 60 & 61 right across from the bathrooms which were perfect. The sites were generously sized, easily marked & reasonably priced. They had horseback riding on premises for $16 a person - a real steal unfortunately we didn't realize it early enough. The camp store was open late, there was a pool (for an extra fee) & so much more to explore here. The only drawback was lack of trees although we didn't need it as it was in the 40's overnight in JULY....what a surprise for Florida people. Otherwise I highly recommend this site for it's convenience, quiet & other amenities.
Nice campsites but crowded and not all were level. Nice facilities which were very clean. But the Highway noise was ridiculously loud. So loud I thought I camped next to an interstate. Others said the noise was four stars good. I don’t understand. It was loud and constant. Very annoying. I won’t stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay at Chadron - nice spacious sites, great hiking, beautiful horses, and nice hosts. The pay showers were clean (I think it was like 1.25 for 7 min). The bathrooms were also very clean. No problem with the internet signal. As others have mentioned- you can hear the interstate when at the campground outside of your rig depending on your spot - but not that bad.
Electric plus sites only but has dump station with drinkable water fills

Fantastic state park, one of the best we've been to, and we've been to many.
We really liked the trails, pool, & our campsite. Nebraska recently repaved the cg roads and some site pads.
Close to town for groceries, etc. Plenty to do in the area, check it out.

Very well maintained state park with friendly camp host. Stayed the week before Memorial Day and just 15% full which was nice.
$41 for electric only ($25 per site, $12 entrance fee for out of state tags, $4 various fees and tax).

Really enjoyed our stay here. Camped in site 64, mostly level. Some little road noise. Very expensive - total cost for 2 nights was over $100 (booking fee, camp fees, registration fee per vehicle , Tax ) for an electric only site. Good Verizon hot spot access. Clean restrooms and pay showers (did not use). Dump station is available.

This park is nice, clean and well cared for. It is electric only as most Nebraska parks are. A few miles to Chadron, 4 or 5 miles, but they have everything you need there. You can hear the highway noise at your site, but it isn't bad outside and you don't hear it inside. Highly recommend staying here. We didn't have a reservation but had no problem getting a walkup site.

Gorgeous park and we hoped to have an extended stay to explore the area. But we set up our motorhome, walked the dogs along the park road, and spent the rest of the evening picking ticks off of ourselves and the dogs. The dogs are on a tick prevention medication from their veterinarian but it did not deter the ticks.
We were not hiking or in tall grass, just the mowed grass at our campsite and the gravel on the edge of the road.
I’m sure the sandy soil, the light winter, and early spring have brought a huge tick population.
So campers be warned.

This fine state park has lots of amenities - hiking, swimming, biking, horseback riding, as well as a fishing pond with paddle boats. The campground has electricity and paved sites. About half the sites can be reserved but early in the season that wasn't a problem.
Fees are higher for nonresidents. And a park entrance fee ($8/night or annual) is also required.

We have stayed at Chadron State Park several times, it has become one of our favorites in Nebraska. We typically plan a mini family reunion because of the swiming pool, pond, frisbee golf, equestrian and hiking trails. The park is mostly quiet with some highway noise if you are staying in certain sites, the area is well kept and the shower houses are cleaned often.
