In 1880.  Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Cedar Key is the second oldest city in Florida. In the 1800's Cedar Key was a bustling city of nearly 4000 souls connected to it's sister city of Fernandina Beach via Henry Flagler's and David Levy Yulee's (Florida's first senator)  railroad. Cedar Key was known for its cedar which was used for making pencils.  Eagle Cedar Mill and the Eberhardt Faber mill were the prominent pencil mills in Cedar Key.  Today, Cedar Key's primary industries are clam farming and tourism.
