Originally we were aiming for Casper Mountain, but decided to take a shot on the North Platte River area instead. The weather was rather iffy and we didn't want to go higher if it was going to get cooler. And we are sooooo glad we headed here!
This is about 20 minutes outside of Casper on Rte 220...about 4 miles in on 316. The turn itself isn't very well marked, so slow down! The road in is gravel, nice and wide and well maintained (other than a little washboard).
There are actually 3 campgrounds on this road (the first is tent only, the second is bigger with more sites and a boat ramp and then the third which we stayed at). We chose the 3rd one for a couple of reasons. One - there was absolutely no one else at it and Two - water access was much easier. We could put our chairs right at the rivers edge...Perfect!
There are pit toilets here. A firepit and picnic table at each site. The area had been recently mowed and it was clean!
The North Platte River is a Blue Ribbon/Gold Medal fishing river and though it was high, the Hubs had no problem catching some nice rainbows. There were also deer, antelope, rabbits and tons of birds.
According to the Game Warden this is the busy time of year. Once it gets hot every one heads to the reservoir. While we were there, one truck camper came in Friday night. We like this kind of "busy".
Cell signal was null, unless we went out onto 220. There we got 4 bars of 4g with Verizon.
Oh...and if you have the Access Pass it's only $5/night.
Definitely would return here again...already planning on it!

I'm not so sure about the name "BUFFALOBERRY"; we followed the coordinates and ended up along Trapper Rd that traveled alongside the North Platte River. We by-passed the first two pull-offs because they looked like tent places or picnic areas but no one was there. The third place was named the Chalk Cliffs Campground for obvious reasons. If it's not the same spot, it's close.

We were in a 25' Forester RV and we found the 4 mile entry road extremely washboard-y, so much so that our pots & pans drawer became unscrewed from the RV's walls!

Once set up, we loved this level spot! There were two other campsites occupied which we find makes us feel safer than being totally all alone. In the morning, fishermen came to use the ramp. We loved watching four white pelicans (?) perform lovely synchronized swimming and fishing, and three graceful deer come down to drink and feed both at night and in the morning. Small cotton tail rabbits were active. Very peaceful. One of the things we talked about as we watched the river flow by was how this type of experience would be absent if we were going hotel to hotel.

On the long slow trip up Trapper Road the evidence showed on our windshield that we'd be inundated with insects. However, that wasn't the case (well, maybe we encountered a fly or two) but no biting insects. It was the first week in August and the grass wasn't mowed but that didn't bother us.

Sorry, we can't comment on cell coverage as we never even thought to check our phones while here. We had a Senior Life Time Pass so it only cost us $5.00

Our campsites was in neighboring Chalk Bluffs but we walked down to this site. The bulletholes in both bathroom doors was concerning. It is sad to drive hundreds of miles and see this.

Gravel road off of 220 south of Casper. A little washboard but good otherwise. Several small areas to camp. Buffaloberry is one of the furthest down the road about 3.5 miles. We stayed in #4 on a sun and mon night. River is lovely. No trash receptacles, water but clean toilets. Our 23+ ft tt worked fine. Don't know if larger would. Deer, bald eagle seen, but fishing wasn't great. Would do a guided boat trip if we get here again. Very quiet.

The road is 3 miles of washboard 5-10 mph washboard ( reason only 4 stars). We had the site that backs up to the North Platte. I would definitely go in without the RV to make sure I could get in.

NOT FREE!! The fee is $10 ($5 with Access or GoldenAge pass), fee box at entrance near sign with instructions and very clean pit toilet.
Proceed to loop with 4 numbered sites, each with a nice fire ring. We stayed at site 1 which is on the river. The other 3 sites are smaller, with river views but along the loop road.
Place was deserted when we arrived.
The river is just beautiful and we were treated to pelicans. river otters and cows in the nearby fields.
Beware ANTS!! lots of big ones, moths and flies. No mosquitoes or bees though.
Not much shade, the sun was hot.
Great scenic spot to spend the night.
Cell coverage for Verizon was great.
Oh the 4 mile road in is really bumpy, so be ready for that, but totally worth it.

30’ bumper pull with long bed truck. We could definitely make the loop going thru campground. 4 sites and they were small. Run down sites with not a lot fo space. I was looking forward to this spot and the entire fam was a bit down. We ended up going back to Chalk Bluffs with more views and space.

We had an unusually early snow storm that dropped temperatures into the teens. The site was very muddy and had many large holes that filled with water and mud. Many of the other sites had better conditions. I would not stay at this site again.
