“descend into Palo Duro Canyon”
From the canyon rim, our tour begins a slow descent into Palo Duro with spectacular views of Palo Duro Canyon State Park and the famous Lighthouse monument, 400 feet below the rim, we travel along the plateau and around the outer perimeter of Black Hawk Mesa. Stop to witness the power of water - through time - over solid rock at Legend Falls. Capture fantastic North/South views of the canyon from Yellow Bear Bluff. Our tour continues through Mule Deer Meadow, a colorful carpet of wildflowers. Thrill to the unexpected as we climb up and over the exciting E. J. Pearson Pass on our return to the rim.
This was one of the biggest expenses on our trip, but it was worth it. Our youngest son (10) loves TX and we had to include a Texas experience on our trip west as we traveled along I-40. Elkins Ranch is a working ranch, but you don't see any of the ranch part on the tour. When our guide found out that our youngest was collecting rocks from each state we visited he took us to a place that had a lot of rocks. He was very nice and helpful.
