This is a Corp of Engineers park. We've camped here many times in the last ten years. Using our Senior Access Pass, our daily rate is $13 - thank you federal government! It's a clean park, all paved with many shady sites. Fire rings, covered tables, level sites, clean rest rooms and showers, boat ramps and a great lake view are some of the features. Good water and reliable electric hook-ups can be expected while camping here.

The park can get full often in the summer time, so there might not be an open RV site in the "walk-in" section if you come in on a Friday or weekend day, so you might want to book a reservation on the ReserveAmerica website. An in-park dump station makes it easy to use a personal honey wagon tote. The Corp limits stays to two weeks per month, except in the winter, the snowbirds can stay for months.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because occasionally the gatehouse attendants can be less than courteous. Most of them are very friendly and helpful though. The Corp shouldn't renew gate attendant contracts to people who are not camper-friendly.

Needed to stay at Canyon Lake for a bit to help with a triathlon at Canyon Park (another CoE facility, but closed from September 30 to April 1) which was about 8 miles away. Since I don't do commercial campgrounds unless I absolutely have to, this was the closest alternative.

About half of the sites at Potters Creek are walk-in and I was a bit concerned since I would be arriving during Spring Break. There were no reservation spots available for the length of time that I needed, so I gambled and just showed up. Since it was a Thursday, there were plenty of walk-in sites available (also helped the weather wasn't the best, so it kept some Spring Breakers away).

I ended up at site 16 in Loop 1, which is slightly up a hill. This offered a great view of the lake and was in the section with trees, so a bit of shade as well. Made for a great setting.

There is plenty of spacing between sites. Site 16 had nobody on one side (well, there was a site but quit a ways away) and the site on the other side was slightly downhill. This made for good privacy.

I had zero problems with the gate attendants, unlike the other reviewer, but I am sure this is a hit or miss situation.

My only complaint with this campground is that there is no hiking trails. Obviously this isn't a big deal for those that would rather site inside and watch TV, but I enjoy getting out and enjoying nature. Canyon Park (8 miles away) is another CoE facility that does have about 8.5 miles worth of trails, so that is an option a little ways away. Even though Canyon Park isn't open year-round, the trails are.

Great unboosted cell coverage.

We stayed at Potters Creek in January as it was highly recommended by a friend. The pros are it's a big pretty nicely laid out park. Campsites are big, nicely spaced and paved. There are sites out in the open near the water and back int he trees. Every site also has a paved covered pad with a pinnic table. We had a nice site by the water. They also have some sites that accept 2 RVs campsites. The main reason to stay there would be to use your boat on Canyon Lake. That's about all there is to do. Cons: There is no hiking, boat rentals, store, firewood sales - just campsites. There is really nothing interesting to see inside the park.

Can't say much more than the previous reviews. We had 4 bars of Verizon and over 30 stations on antenna TV. All of the sites view the water and are big

Tried to camp here, but could not get in. Flooding last year took out most of their sites, leaving only 25 operational. This is a first come first serve park, so you will have to be lucky to get in. No one is allowed to even walk through the previously flooded areas, making the campground much smaller.

We loved Potters Creek Park and can't wait to go again. We had fun bird watching and seeing new varieties we had not seen before.
Each of the campsites have a covered picnic table and the shaded campsite are refreshingly cool.
Bathrooms were clean and showers were free. The shower stalls were nice and big and felt very clean. While there a serious thunderstorm rolled through about midnight with a tornado warning. The bathroom was the place to hang out until it had settled, so it was nice to have a clean bathroom.
My only complaint is that the nearest grocery store had a very small produce section and the nearest HEB was about 25 minutes away.

Love the location and large spaced out sites. Quiet! This area is an hour from Austin, San Antonio and Fredericksburg. The lake is gorgeous! Unfortunately, a lot of the campground flooded during Harvey and only one area is open. We have a Federal senior pass so got half off fee. Lots of area to walk and ride bikes. I got 4 bars of LTE on Verizon.

We enjoyed our stay here. The majority of the park is still closed due to flood damages but I was told that they are working to have most of that back open this spring. Opening the rest of the park would make a lot of great sites available.

The restrooms are very clean and showers are roomy. The hot water, however, is great! It's rare to find a campground anywhere with hot water as hot as it is here. I was hesitant to pay the $26 per night but this alone kind of makes up for the price.

Cell service is not too bad. AT&T has 3 to 4 bars of LTE with a booster. T-Mobile has 5 bars of LTE with no booster.

Wildlife is everywhere here, especially deer! We've seen an abundance of deer, a couple of foxes, and various other critters.

Proximity to shopping is so/so. There's a nice grocery store within about 10 miles but their prices are a bit high. Drive into New Bransfels (Buc-ee's!) or San Marcos and find anything you want, though.

The biggest downfall that I saw was the ant beds. They're everywhere. Thankfully it is cold enough that they aren't a big problem right now. Be sure to watch your step, though!

We stayed at Potter's Creek the week of Thanksgiving. This time of the year there are only 2 camping loops open, 1 &4. #1 is 1st come and #4 is reserveable. We were in #4 and it was practically full and other loop almost empty. Sites are paved, good size with covered picnic table, grill and fire ring. There is also restrooms and hot showers in each loop along with trash dumpster. Both loops have 2sided dump station available. There is plenty of wildlife to watch and photograph. The interesting part of the campground is the curfew, if you are not in the park by 10pm, you have to wait until 8am when the gate opens. Just be aware of that when out visiting the area. This is about an hour north of San Antonio and in the hill country of Texas.

I cannot emphasize enough, do NOT arrive before 3pm. No matter what, do not arrive early. Not only will you not be allowed in, you will be barred from the property and you are likely to be lectured to by the very rude gate attendants. Having never been here before, we were unaware of this rule until we were pulled up to the gate. With a tow behind our rig, we could not back out and asked the attendant to allow us to pull through and turn around and leave the property. He reluctantly allowed us to do this but warned us repeatedly that we were not to go any further on the property than necessary to turn around and then leave immediately. I cannot emphasize enough how nasty and rude this gate attendant was to us. When we returned after 3 to check in he was equally rude to us during the check in process. Later my husband went to get groceries and we had forgotten to put the pass in our car window, which led to more lecturing from the other gate attendant. These two would probably be happier with jobs that did not have them dealing with humans who make mistakes. They are the only reason I am not giving this campground 5 stars.

When you are done with the gate attendants the campground is amazing!

Most of the sites are pretty large with mature trees. The pads are paved with a fine gravel patio area outlined by railroad ties. Each site has a sturdy, clean, covered picnic table, a large fire ring, and the nicest smoker grills we have ever seen in any campground. The lakeside sites go fast, but even from the back row you have a view of the lake.

The bathroom facilities are nice, clean and in great condition.

All of the grounds are well maintained and pleasant. The campground is quiet and peaceful. We have been so happy here. (Except when we have to interact with the gate attendants)

The local grocery store, Brookshire Brothers, exceeded our expectations. It was not overpriced, the produce and meat were fresh, and they have craft beer on tap for you to enjoy while shopping.
