Skyline
Drive is a scenic roadway in Cañon City, Colorado. It was built by
inmate labor in 1908. The road starts from U.S. Highway 50 with a
gradual incline up the side of the ridge. Experience magnificent - and occasionally hair raising - views from
Skyline Drive, an approximately 3-mile stretch of paved road that
follows the crest of an 800-foot high Dakota hogback. This narrow road
is open year round, weather permitting. Stop along the way to view a
series of preserved dinosaur footprints, called a dinosaur trackway,
preserved in the Early Cretaceous Dakota Sandstone. Explanatory signs
provide additional information for dinosaur enthusiasts.
The map is putting this in the incorrect location. It runs parallel to HWY 50 and is a one-way road that travels east into the City.
It is definitely was an interesting and picturesque drive in Canon City.
