“Points of Interest in Calumet, MI”
The Calumet Theatre in Calumet, Michigan opened at the turn of the century in 1900 as the premiere theatrical venue in the Upper Peninsula. The opulent theatre was patronised by wealthy copper magnates in the area, and featured a stunning copper chandelier. The copper mining industry was incredibly lucrative to the Upper Peninsula since the 19th century. The theater is believed to be haunted by Helena Modjeska, a Polish actress who doesn't like when her portrait is taken down. It's alleged that the theater is taken over by what's described as a "poltergeist" whenever her portrait is removed from the wall where it hangs. There are loud noises, crashes, lights flickering on and off, and even the spectral form of Helena herself has been spotted. In 1958, a local actress was performing on the stage and forgot her lines, and Helena allegedly whispered her lines to her. - Roadtrippers
