“on the major highway through Death Valley”
Stovepipe Wells is on the major highway through Death Valley. The RV sites consist of an enormous asphalt area with sites simply marked on it. There is no shelter or shade. But note: Get fuel here because prices are usually lower than at Furnace Creek. An unusual trail is available off the highway within a short distance; look for the sign for the Mosaic Canyon Trail parking area. From here you can take the easy one-mile walk up a beautiful canyon, where the walls are marble and seem as if they are polished. Rock scramblers can extend the trip for another mile. The elevation is at sea level on the edge of a large expanse of Death Valley below sea level.
There are 18 sites for tents only and 172 sites for RVs of any length (no hookups). Picnic tables and fire rings are provided at the tent sites. Drinking water, restrooms with flush toilets and coin showers, dump station, swimming pool (extra fee), camp store, and gasoline are available. Some facilities are wheelchair-accessible. Leashed pets are permitted at campsites only.
In Stovepipe Wells Village, drive west on Highway 190 to the signed entrance (just before the general store) on the right.
