Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on February 03, 2021There are dozens of ramondas, picnic tables and fire pits off Main Street, a well traveled groomed dirt road.
Just off the highway and Main Street there are flush toilets, coin operated showers and dumpsters. There are numerous clean pit toilets in the area as well. Adjacent to the restrooms is a large partially covered area for group rental.
Main Street intersects with Quarry Road and ends at The Cove camping area. Ramondas, tables and fire pits are numerous in these three intersecting areas. Or if you rather, find a spot anywhere and set up camp.
The main attraction is all the off road possibilities. It was wildly busy for Presidents Day weekend. We have visited this area 2 other times midweek and we were virtually by ourselves. If you are into off roading, there are very well marked roads with geological destinations to ride to extending to all sides of this off road area. Pick up a map at the visitor’s center off Route 78 and Quarry Road.
For those of you coming from the city, you will be amazed at the star gazing. Anza Borrego Desert State Park is adjacent to the area. It’s worth a visit to the Visitor Center near Borrego Springs. Visit Slot Canyon if you have time. Take Butte’s Pass Road, a dirt road (street legal vehicles only) off of Route 78 and stay left at the fork to Borrego Mountain Wash.

Nice Ramadas . I was at the one furthest from the Hwy but still a lot of noise.

Large sites spread far apart some with picnic tables, fire rings and shade structures. Some will have metal fire rings, all will have camper made stone rings and they are everywhere. Warning! - people burn whole pallets which leaves nails everywhere around them. Drive with caution any where near a stone fire ring.
This area is mainly for OHV use which can get extremely busy in winter. Temperatures during summer are extreme. This is a dark sky designated area, bring a telescope.
There is no water anywhere near here, come prepared. Vault toilets are throughout the Main Street area. Small town of Borrego Springs 15 minutes away with gas and a small market. There is an RV "Resort" down the road with a $20 dump station and small store.
Camped here late September to test out the F150 on board generator, temps in the day close to 90, night down to 70, during the week we had the place to ourselves and by Saturday it was getting a little busier with the off roaders. Very relaxing time to chill with great views of desert and surrounding mountains.
