Byron Hot Springs Hotel

The Byron Hotel stands in shambles, just a hollow shell of its former glory. Once known as “The Byron Hot Springs Hotel and Resort,” this retreat from daily life was wildly popular with A-list celebrities in the early 1900s. Although the building had burned down twice, no significant deaths were reported at the hotel during its resort days. It was, however, turned into a makeshift hospital immediately after The Great Byron Train Disaster of 1902, which occurred nearby, and many people died there in the aftermath.  In 1941 the building became Camp Tracy, a WWII Interrogation camp for German and Japanese prisoners of war. This camp actually utilized cultural understanding, offered the prisoners access to the hot springs. Then it was sold to the Greek Orthodox church to be used as a Mission St. Paul, and then in 1956 it changed hands many more times. Different owners planned to restore the springs, but bankruptcy, politics, financial issues, illness, and more bankruptcy stifled all plans for development. It's reported that the current owner has plans to develop the property, but it has been years since anyone has used it outside urban exploration. All odds point to Byron Hot Springs Hotel simply serving as a disheveled and historical land mark at the end of a forgotten road.
