Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on July 29, 2020This place has so many pluses: It is a short distance from Laramie; the campground is very pretty and has lovely views of Vedauwoo; there is a great 3-mile hike starting from the campground; the ATT signal was awesome; the sites are spacious.
Negatives: pit toilets and no potable water. They have potable water stations, but as of this writing the water supply was infected with E coli, and there is a directive on the board to boil your water before consuming it.
We came at 8 pm and got the last spot, so try to arrive earlier and don't tempt the Gods the way we did! We did find a pull along site, although most sites are back-in.
The normal rate is $18, but they have a 50% off senior rate. Sweet.

Originally we had staked out and paid for a site at Tie City Campground but when we drove down here on the 4th of July, expecting it to be full, we were pleasantly surprised to find a lot of good tent sites in the main campground still available. We found one with a great view of the rocks. Nice tent pad.
Only problems here: wind and thunderstorms. The rain was negligible. But we did get a lot of wind at dinnertime and I had to cook dinner in the tent.
There is a bit of freeway noise but not bad at night.
Plus: lots of nearby hiking!
Vault toilets were well stocked with TP, fairly clean. No water. Fortunately we had brought our own.

We arrived here trying to escape the snow (Oct 8th) in central WY. We parked and it was stunning -only one other couple was here camping! We awoke to 7" of snow! No hookups but it was a safe and stunning place to be stranded. Very happy with stumbling upon this place. Easy to just put your cash in the envelope and toss it into the box. We saw moose and plenty of deer frolicking. The trash service is locked and unusable. All around we have loved being here in the snow - if only we had more fresh water we'd stay!

Had been by here in the past and never stayed. This time we made it a priority. The view of all the rock formations is just amazing! Ah! And the smell of pine, gotta love it. The campground road is fairly narrow in spots and many of the sites are narrow and short. With that being said we found a spot for our 32 TT and made it through without any issues. The vault toilet are pretty nice for vault toilets. No terrible smells and clean. The place definitely fills up on a Friday night. Get here early.

Stumbled upon this gorgeous FREE camping spot when I was going to Frontier Days in Cheyenne. Gorgeous free sites with great views, right off the highway next to the state park.

I left Denver, explored Cheyenne all day, and stayed here for a night. I rolled in at 5pm on a Tuesday and snagged the last RV spot. Absolutely phenomenal landscape! I would have loved to stay longer. Cold and breezy, even in June (50 during the day with 20 mph winds).

The rock formations here were amazing enough for me to ditch my planned campsite, 20 miles away, and set up my tent here. 6/21/19
Lots of rocks and canyons to explore. Campground had several different levels of campsites to stay. I didn’t know that before I got here and set up my tent....in the rain and sleet. Check them all out before you decide on a spot. I chose #19 because it was one of the only spots with a large rock wall blocking a lot of the wind that constantly rushes through the canyons; and it came with a camping buddy.... an alpine chipmunk. I was lucky to catch an amazing sunset at the rock formations near the entrance to the campsite. At only $10/ night, you can’t really beat it.

Traveling to Jackson and needed a place for the night. Had great reviews so gave it a shot. Pulled in Saturday night around 8 and did not have a problem finding a spot. Really nice, clean campground. Looking forward to seeing more in the morning.

Absolutely loved this place!!! Easy access off I-80 maybe half an hour west of Cheyene. Roads in the campground are narrow, but with care you can negotiate ok. Free camping with Senior Pass. Plenty of space between sites. No highway noise. Clean vault toilets. Water has been turned off for remainder of 2019. Great hiking. Views are spectacular. Next time, I will stay longer ... we LOVED IT!!
