We enjoyed our stay here, many spots to pick from, but a few things to be advised about.
1. When we arrived it looked like a lot of the locals "dropped" their campers there for storage to avoid paying storage fees. However, while we were there the National Forest staff came in several times and started tagging these RVs and most of them were removed within a week or so.
2. This place is a haven for SxS and ATV traffic on the weekend so it can get loud and very dusty
3. Hundreds of free-range cattle, so if you are not comfortable with them walking in and through your campsite you may want to pick another location.
4. There is only one place in all the area that has cell coverage and turns out we camped on that hill without knowing it so we had traffic all day with people parking in and around our campers to use their phones.
We did a video review of this spot and it is linked in the video review section of this location if you are interested but here is the link https://youtu.be/gpm9THujEow
We really enjoyed our stay even with those items we listed above, would stay here again for sure. Thank you to the National Forest Staff for patrolling this area!!!

The Elgin Park Trailhead in Bighorn National Forest is a surprisingly popular boondocking spot. I was expecting it to be a bit more isolated due to the location, but there were many RV's when we were there in early September.
The location is beautiful and access is great. I'm giving it overall 4 stars because of how busy it was and lack of cell service.

We stopped for one night on our way from South Dakota to Yellowstone. We got in pretty late but were able to find a little spot right off the road. The views of the snow capped mountains were beautiful. The road in and out was dirt and very manageable.

This is a large area with lots of roads leading off the main Elgin Park Loop road. Many firepits, generally located along the tree line, but boondocking out in the open is also possible in many locations. Only drawback is that the area is popular with ATV enthusiasts. We found them to be polite and considerate, but still noise can be an issue. After a couple of days in a more major location near the already listed coordinates, we moved on a bit to a lovely small meadow where we were alone at 44.26831, -106.90190. This is small and somewhat uneven ground so not for everyone - no big rigs here - but for us it was perfect.

I camped 1.5m shy of the go’s. Lots of spaces and nice road. View of snow capped mountains a d 10° cooler than Buffalo. ATV traffic.
