β€œcome picnic, fish, & swim!”

Relatively small but very popular, Bridgeport State Recreation Area lies adjacent to the North Platte River on the north edge of the town of Bridgeport. The area totals 197 acres with 119 acres of land and 78 acres of water in several sand pit lakes. Bridgeport had its beginnings during the 1930s as a sand and gravel pumping operation. During the early part of World War II, gravel from Bridgeport was hauled to Alliance to build the concrete runways for the paratrooper base there. The area was obtained by the Game and Parks Commission for development as a recreation area in 1952. Today, picnicking, fishing, swimming and camping are favoriate activities at the area. One of the earliest developments by the Commission was the planting of numerous trees and shrubs, which have now matured to provide ample shade. Visitors will find cottonwood, pine, sand cherry, plum, Nanking cherry, quail bush, chokecherry and Chineses elm predominant on the area.

I grew up swimming, water skiing, picknicking, camping and shooting fireworks & riding horses and Holidays there when I was growing up. My Grandparents Don & Jackie Williams lived there in the 50's through 80's and my Mom & Aunts went through Bridgeport HS. Wow. Our entire families, Aunts, Uncles & Cousins would get together all summer long and had so much fun!...

The Sand Pits & Bridgeport, NE are Beautiful. Court House Rock, Jail House Rock, Chimney Rock are there... It is NOT the flat part of Nebraska - Lower Western Panhandle. My Grandparents are in the Cemetery there & I always visit when there.

A friend of mine died 2 years ago & friends on their way to Sturgis took his boot to Ash Hollow & put it on a pole. His name is Radar... Radar Love "Brent Estep" A biker buddy who brought his Chopper in the house/laundry room every night without fail! 🌺
Wow... What are the odds of that pleasant synchronicity?!? I've moved a lot in my life and I have lived in Kansas City since 1992... 25 years ago now.

I will always remember Bridgeport, NE. So many fond & Sentimental Memories from there in my heart!
