Confirmed by 6 users | Last reported on September 05, 2023We stopped here so we could do some easy paddle boarding on Lake Dillon and catch a few stages of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Most of the surrounding campgrounds were booked out on the weekends, so we ended up here. What we didn't realize until we got here is that the spots are about 50 feet from the water. Most of the other campgrounds you have a decent little walk to the water, carrying paddle boards over distance wasn't in the plan.
The trade off of this place vs. the others near by is proximity to the water for privacy. Pine Cove is a glorified parking lot, and your neighbors can get very close. According to the campground host, (who has been there for 6 years) during the summer (when school is out) they fill up every weekend, so getting in early Friday, if you plan on spending the weekend, is a must.
There are vault toilets, drinking water, and firewood available on site. Two hiking/mtn. bike trails directly out of the lot. The trail to the north is about 6 miles out and back, the south trail is about 2.5 mile out and back. You also have access to the paved bike trail system that runs to Frisco, Breckenridge, Dillon, and circles the lake.
When you leave, there is a dump station a few miles away, towards Breck. $5 to dump and fill your RV. https://www.campendium.com/breckenridge-rv-dump-station

This is the only non-reservation campground near Dillon Reservoir, and although it's just an asphalt parking lot and sites are close, it's a great location right on the lake for putting in a kayak or SUP. There are no hookups, but water is available to fill jugs, and there are vault toilets. The camphost has been there many years and runs a tight ship, which is good, He tells everyone on arrival to be prudent with your use of a generator, since your neighbors are so close, and most people seemed to comply.
There are a couple of good trails from the campground, one that goes around the peninsula, and another that climbs a ridge for fantastic views. And it's less than a mile up the road to get to the paved bike path that goes around the reservoir, or to Breckenridge, Frisco, and Dillon. Being at 9,000' though, physical exercise seemed much harder for us.
There is good shopping nearby (REI, Whole Foods, and other grocery stores and outdoor shops), and Silverthorne has a nice community recreation center where we worked out a few times and showered. All of the local communities have free concerts on various nights of the week, which are well attended and fun for something different to do.
We found lots of great hiking in the area and really liked the town of Breckenridge, where we watched a bike race and frequented a couple breweries. It's not a place for quiet relaxation, but there is a lot to do in the area and we would stay there again.

We needed a site half-way to Glenwood Springs. The campground can be found using the coordinates or with just a smart phone. When we arrived we first looked around a campground that was right before this one, but only found one night stays that weren’t level. We took our Jeep to scout this campground and moved the rig over. It’s an asphalt lot with marked sites. Some sites backup to the lake, some backup to the mountain. We leveled beautifuly. There were plenty of open sites. Water is available at the front by the first restroom area. It isn’t threaded. We picked an open site, settled in, then went to see the camp host. There is a pay box but we noticed everyone had hang tags on their vehicles. The camp host gives them out and can take payment. We were ecstatic to camp here! The scenery is amazing and although their are no hookups, we had beautiful weather and were just fine.

Nice and clean and wide open. Great views! It is row camping so the spots are close together but it’s not too bad.

perfect for mtn biking all day, paddle boarding in the afternoon and watching the sun set over the mountains. The spots are basically lined up in a parking lot and just as close but the "beach" is clutch. You do hear I70 traffic

We enjoyed our time at Pine Cove Campground. It was such a relief to have low 70s day temperatures and mid30s at night. This is a dry camping campground, but a dump station was about 2 miles away. Lots of bike trails and paddle boarding. Very quiet at night. Busy on the weekends. It is a first come first serve campground. Frisco, CO has a nice downtown and there is a Walmart & Safeway. Breckenridge is a short drive also. We would definitely come back again.

No reservations for this parking lot campground - first come, first served. Was here on a rainy Memorial Day Weekend and was nearly empty. Much nicer than you’d think - great view, level spots well spaced, with fire rings and picnic tables along the lake. Quiet and close to Frisco, which is a resort town with all the stores and restaurants you could want. It’s at 9,000 feet elevation so you might wake up with a headache if you’re a flatlander like me. T-Mobile and Verizon both have a good signal here. National Parks pass cuts price in half. Unheated vault toilets. No hookups.

Great area to stay on the water for a few nights. There were only 5 or 6 other cars/RVs in the parking lot which made for a mostly quiet night. One woman at the far end of the campground had two dogs and a child which she screamed at constantly, it’s a miracle she didn’t lose her voice. Other than that it was relatively quiet with just a little bit of noise from the highway across the reservoir. Camp hosts are super kind and helpful. Bundles of wood are available at the next campground over for $7ea. Bathrooms were typical vault toilets with no sinks, there was potable water, and trash cans/dumpsters available!

They take senior and handicapped passes, not annual interagency. Please, keep your tow vehicle and your rig in your slot. Hanging out in the road is not cool. About a third of the slots are taken with people tenting in the grass, which is fine. There's very few trees though. There are about five or six actual walk in tent sites at the far end, which about half the time their parking spaces are taken up by van campers, which seems a waste. Anyhoo, the two vault toilets are kept very clean. There is potable water for jugs by the vault toilet in the day parking lot. Currently, there is a sandy beach at the far end of the parking lot due to the lake being so low, which is nice. It's a nice sheltered cove for boating. The interstate is a long way away across the lake so you can see it but not hear it. If you want to score a lakeside slot, then just pay day to day so you can move when one opens up. If you are on the not lake side, then it's less crowded during the week. We got here on a Wednesday and there was plenty of room. Thursday night, there were only three slots open. Friday morning, it filled up. Today is Wednesday and it is full again, but it was 100 in Denver today, so I'm not surprised. The original camp host quit, so the Peak One hosts were doing a great job. The new host Robert arrived yesterday. We got to know him when he was hosting Shelf Road when we were there last month. I think he will be a good host here as well. The only negatives are the close neighbors with generators and lots of smoke from campfires. The cell service seems to get jammed up on the weekend.
