Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on July 21, 2023Hoosier Pass sites at about 11,500 feet and is directly off highway 9 from Breckenridge.
The area is beautiful and boasts views of multiple 14,000 foot mountains. The dispersed camping is directly off the pull off for the mountain pass. The pull off is large and would allow one to park and scout on foot.
The entrance is well maintained but unfortunately past the second site become highly rutted. The road degrades the futher one drives and there is limited opportunity for turn around if sites are occupied. The first site alone is suitable for a larger rig Please first confirm you can make the turn. The remaining sites would be great for teardrops, small Class Cs or vans.
Sites are all shaded and decently spaced. One drawback however is the area is popular for hiking so it is heavily trafficked and sites are quickly filled. Road noise lessens as you drive further up the road.
The trail to Crystal Lake begins at the pass and is highly recommended for advanced hikers as there are stunning views of the valley.
We received 1 bar of Verizon 4G in the area of the pass.

Area is blocked off and says it is closed for restoration .
Pulling 15' teardrop trailer with AWD SUV. There are 4-5 sites. All are level. Some are easy to pull in. Others are walk-in for tents. One to two areas for a large RV. Lots of trees. Altitude is high, so it get cool. Popular trailhead nearby, so it may be busy. We did not stay, but only checked it out. I would definitely stay here.

Scoped out before hand, only two viable sites for our 30 foot trailer with one slide. Road is very rough going in. We tried staying in Frisco/Breck but everything was full or had limited availability. This location is only 15 minutes from downtown Breck. Again, scoped out before hand. Even if you pull in to the large parking lot at the top of the pass and walk a few feet up to make sure you can make it. My hitch was within inches of bottoming out, but we got it in.
Some campers at night, plenty of open sites for tents and car camping. Nice hiking trail nearby will get busier during the day with people walking the Main Street (doesn’t bother us). Limited (voice only) cell reception on Verizon. Was able to position starlink to get great reception despite tree coverage.
Be aware that this campsite is at 11,500 feet in altitude so get acclimated before hand. We’ve been in Colorado for a few weeks and the first couple of nights we were feeling the altitude.
Some road noise from the Pass but it didn’t bother us at all at night.

Camped here one night while passing through. The road to the dispersed sites was rough but I made it up in my 2WD campervan. It looked like there were about 5 dispersed camping sites. The site I got was gorgeous, spaceous, and relatively flat. There was also a decent sized parking lot but I'm not sure if overnight parking is allowed there or not. The forest service roads provided nice hiking and views of the Montgomery Reservoir and Crystal Lake. We hiked in the evening and early morning and saw very few people. We did see a ton of hikers making their way up the trail mid-morning while we were packing up the van to leave so I assume the parking lot is fairly busy midday. I would camp here again in a heartbeat.
