Nice place to stay when touring the Trace
We were driving the Natchez Trace first of June, 2017 and ended up taking a chance getting a spot at Timberlake after-hours. We were in a 25' Motorhome, so were flexible with our site selection. We drove around a bit before selecting a spot that seemed fairly level. The park was pretty full and the roads somewhat confusing to navigate. The site we selected had tall trees with a dirt pad...it was not along the reservoir as all of those were taken by folks who looked either permanent or who were staying awhile. It appeared many of the RVers were there for the water sports. We had our dogs and it was a nice park to walk around. There is a fenced in tennis court with a basketball and we fiddled around in there late at night and were able to let our stir crazy dogs run off some steam. That was great, although we wouldn't have done that had there been anyone on the courts. Aside from electric and water, we didn't take advantage of the facilities as this was more of an overnight for us. The next morning, we went to pay and the woman was frustrated with a new computer system...thankfully I had some cash and paid her $25, which made her quite happy as she didn't have to deal with trying to figure out the cc payment system. It is a lovely park. I'd certainly stay here again if passing through the area.

She wasn't popping her gum and doing the hair-flip, but was not interested in getting us registered for a campsite. She told us that we needed to pick a site AND set up our trailer and then walk back to the office and finish our paperwork and pay. We didn't unhitch and the office was 1/3 mile away. We were tired! The site selection process was laborious as none of the lanes were marked as to the direction of travel and only a small portion of the total sites were available to us as 1 night campers. We set up next to the bath/shower house for convenience. What a mistake! It was the most outdated, filthiest, broken-up I have ever seen. The formica was buckled up to the point that it was separated from the plywood base. The stall doors were sagging from somebody swinging on them. All the porcelain was rusty and the showers were continuously dripping. When I went back to office, SHE was gone and a young man helped me. There was a security guy there also. When I told them about the disgusting bathroom, they agreed with my opinion, offered no apology and said that there was a newer bath house which was fine, the only problem was it was also 1/3 mile from my site.
I should have known what kind of place this was when I saw a sign on the office door that stated that they have NO Wi-Fi which of course is promised by the website. The park has many long term campers and their typical clutter is very unsightly as are the tied up dogs and dog crap all through the park. I used a credit card to pay for my site and was hit with a credit card charge that nobody disclosed. Our driveway was broken-up concrete and leaves and tree debris were out of control. Noise was from nearby USAF base, but not too bad.

Campground is decently large, with an older area and a newer area. The newer area has pull-throughs and permits reservations. The older area is dedicated to seasonal use or 1st come 1st serve spots.

It's clean and decently pretty - but there isn't much 'special' in the winter. Maybe worth the price in the summer when pool is open?

The sites in the older area are asphalt and vary in levelness and size. The sites in the newer area are concrete and vary in levelness - but are all large enough for big rigs. They all have grills and picnic tables, but there are no groundfires allowed.

The park is well wooded, and some sites are along the lake. Which is where things get a bit interesting. Lakeside sites are $30, interior/non lakeside sites are $25. But, you have to sort of guess which is which. And if you arrive before 2pm they will have you select a site and then come back and register after 2pm. Then you find out if you have a $25 or a $30 site. Also, apparently all of the sites in the new loop (up front) are $30 - although that isn't mentioned anywhere and they are not lakeside.

There is a 14 day limit is you are not a seasonal patron, but the staff at the desk let us squeak out 15 days (we had other travel plans).

You can have mail shipped here, which is cool. But, they also hold some sort of meeting of many white older men in the office pretty frequently and you can't go into the office when that happens and the security guy who is there to protect the old white men will bluntly let you know that if you unknowningly try.

We stayed up front in the newer area, and it can get pretty loud there with trucks entering/leaving in the morning, folks swinging through to use the bathroom/showers and general road noise. But, the road noise leads to nearby amenities such as a grocery store (right across the street). But mostly it's just chain stores nearby. There is a YMCA and a park with disc golf next door to the campground.

There is also a paved walking/biking trail that runs past the campground - although it's kind of boring and not at all scenic. But, it's there.

The pool is 'open' all year, but it is not 'open' for swimming. It just chills there, uncovered, and is cleaned weekly. There area lots of kids here - and the playground is always popping off.

So yeah. It's a place. With FHU. A laundry room (clean/large). A (closed but also open during the winter) pool. A playground. Some lake views that also have views of apartments mingled in. And some weird office rules/meetings of old white men.

Oh! And there is NO WiFi here - even though I have read in their brochure that there is. There is not.

I travelled here with a 35’ 5th wheel, long bed pickup and parked in site #N127, a FHU, BI site for $40/night. The roads were asphalt and the sites were concrete. This is a large county campground. The roads were easy to navigate. Some sections were shady, but this site is in a sunny, open space. This section was where they put people who are staying a short time versus the longer term rental areas. It is a nice wide site with a picnic table but no firepit. There are several bathhouses in the CG, 2 were in sad shape needing some repairs and more regular cleaning. The one near the pool was pretty nice. This site is located right on the entrance road to the park so there is a lot of traffic flowing by it. Combined with the major street by the park it makes for a lot of street noise. I had 4 bars LTE with Verizon, no wifi and several OTA channels. It is fairly close to the Natchez Trace and there is a Kroger less than ½ mile away. I would stay here again.

There is a little road noise, but wasn’t too bad. Staff is very friendly and would definitely stay here again. Full hook-ups with nice level concrete pads. Decent sized spots with paved roads.

I called to make a reservation but was told that it was "first come, first serve".

We were traveling between destinations, just needed a site for the night, and wouldn't be arriving until after 8pm so this made me nervous. I asked the person on the phone and she said guessed they'd had about 5 sites available.

When we arrived, we drove around quite a bit looking for a site. The way the one-way traffic pattern is designed you keep going in loops. Many of the sites are monthly rentals and those sites are clearly distinguished from the nightly rentals by use of the code MR and NR in the site number. We were just about to give up when we finally found an open site.

There are also some premium sites that do accept reservations, at a higher cost. I am not sure why this was not mentioned to us when we called. Perhaps they were all filled.

The site was near the edge of the campground, with a road nearby so there was constant road noise, but we left the fan on in our RV and where able to sleep.

The concrete pads are pretty level. The grounds are well maintained and the RVs at the site all appear to be in good condition, making for a pleasant atmosphere.

I wish there was a map at the check-in location to give some clue as to where the open sites were. This would have made for a more pleasant arrival.
