“the oldest Woodland Indian site in the Southeast”

This historically significant park is the oldest and largest Woodland Indian site in the southeastern United States, occupied by American Indians from 350 to 750 a.d. Georgia’s oldest great temple mound, standing 57 feet high, dominates two smaller burial mounds and several ceremonial mounds. The park’s museum is built around an excavated mound, providing an unusual setting for learning who these people were and how they lived. Inside, visitors will find numerous artifacts and a film.   Kolomoki Mounds is also known for its wide range of outdoor activities.  Two lakes provide fishing and boating, and a campground is nestled under hardwoods and pines. Hikers can choose from two scenic trails. The Spruce Pine Trail offers views of lakes Yahola and Kolomoki, while the Trillium Trail meanders through the forest.  Children will enjoy the playground, pedal boats and miniature golf.

Price reflects a 20% senior (62+) and includes $5 park fee. Some very large sites nicely separated. Some long pull-thru. 24 sites with water and 30 amp electric. Several trails through the woods and a self guided tour of the Indian mounds.

The campground is pretty with great sunsets. The sites are well maintained but offer no privacy.

No phone service unless you went to day use area. For me this was very important. WIFI was too far too easily get access.

I'd would not stay here again, not because it's not pretty but it just didn't offer a lot for me and it's not super close to anything. The mounds were not that impressive and you can read about the history easily online.

The campground was very quiet. The sites are maintained and offer a view of the lake. We stayed at site #12 as we wanted a pull-through and is close to the bathroom. The bathroom was clean and has showers and a laundry area. We stayed June, 2020. There are walking trails but it was pouring down rain so we did not use them. Price reflects $5 state park fee.

Kolomoki Mounds State Park is a pretty large Park, which is mostly empty the times I have visited, except for the camping area.

It seems that a lot of folks love to camp here... so I was lucky to grab a site on the weekend I wanted to go camping.

I was one out of two tent campers, surrounded by Airstreams and other RVs.

Had a great time here... will definitely return.

This park also has several hiking trails, not always in the best kept condition, but of varying lengths which offers something for everyone.

We stayed here for two nights in site 18. This was a very quite campground without a lot of traffic, I think just because it’s a relatively small campground. Site 18 was very private, mostly surrounded by trees. Cell service, at least Verizon was very poor. We did go check out the small museum and climber to the top of the temple mound, which were both fairly interesting.

There’s only like 4 campers here. Very beautiful and fairly quiet.
Campsite 1 is right by the playground which no one told us, but there are no kids playing there tonight!
We are sitting beside the lake watching the Purple Martins and swifts catch some of these 7 million skeeters which are trying to eat us. Thank you for repellent!
Oh and don’t forget the deafening cicadas!
So peaceful.
And the fact that there are Indian mounds here make it all the better. We will go on the tour in the AM as the museum closed just after we got here.
Very little phone service!

We really loved Kolomoki. The state park is large with a lot of open space. There are many playgrounds, the historic site is incredible, the hiking trails are the perfect length and well maintained. The campground itself is small, but the sites are really well situated to maximize privacy. We were in a “buddy” site that shared space with the neighbor, but we had plenty of room and privacy. Mostly level sites on the smallish side, but I think most were 30+. The lake view is great. The maintenance of the whole park was top notch. There was even one washer & dryer on site. This was the best public park we have ever visited. Verizon was 3 bars, but slow.

We stayed here for one night part way to another destination and had a beautiful spacious site right on the water. The park is somewhat remote with a bit of a drive to other attractions. The sites had water and electric and the dump station was very easy to access on the way out of the campground. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We explored the mounds and visited the museum where we watched a video presentation about the former inhabitance of the area. There were some hiking trails through the woods and canoe & kayak rentals available with a boat ramp.

I stayed here 2 nights in 2017. It is a beautiful park and so much Native American history of the Woodland Indians.

Site 11 is at the end of the row so you have one neighbor on the services side. You look out over the water and a small beach/swim area. Just got here last night so still learning about the area. Cell reception not very good but we have internet with our Verizon sim and pepwave router and roof antenna. AT&T sim no internet connection.
