However, the winds have been brutal that past 2 days, as in a complete sand storm at times. I understand from locals that the winds are the worst in April and May.
Our price with a senior pass is only 7 bucks per night. I'd come back in a minute.
Lots of bars with both ATT and Verizon but overall slow data service here and in Page, at least for the last few days.

The views and water are incredible. Cell service is pretty scarce by the beach but the landscape makes up for it. Near many sites seeing wonders. Easy with our 38 ft fifth wheel.

The park service offers little restrictions in the way of ensuring any experience other than Spring Break type mayhem - Boats and jet skiis pull up to the beach , idle in the water spewing exhaust and oil in the water as people pull up their RV's and cars and camp as close to the water as possible - if motorized watercraft were restricted to the nearby marina, Lone Rock might be tolerable as it's a beautiful spot - but it's ruined by the lack of any kind of respect for nature of the "yahoo" crowd that it attracts. Ata minimum the Park Service should divide the beach into different use areas. We left halfway through the day.

When we first pulled into the campground the winds were howling and the sand was blasting everyone camped on the beach. We opted to stay in the upper area gravel lot closer to the camp host sites. We ended up staying there the entire time as the views were great and we could just drive or walk to the beach when we wanted.
We enjoyed paddling around the lake and exploring the area. One thing to note on the fees there is an entry fee and a camping fee. If you have a parks pass you are covered on the entry fee. One of the reviews mistakes the $25 entry fee for a weeks camping.

We had been looking forward to this place and really wanted to love it. But we didn't. It is beautiful, yes. But the relentless winds had us trapped indoors for an entire week. Not to mention the dirt and sand that was EVERYWHERE. We were pelted with sand outside and had a constant layer over everything inside our trailer, even after sweeping and cleaning 2+ times/day.
It IS crowded here and there are no assigned sites, so a few times, we had someone come and park right next to us even though there was tons of space on the beach. Micro flush toilets were fine but not the cleanest. Also note, there is a park entry fee in addition to the camping fee unless you have a National Parks pass.
Nearest town is Page, AZ, Not much to speak of there, except an expensive Safeway. We could not even find a coffee shop with working wifi. Some of the hikes around the area were cool (Buckskin Gulch was our favorite), but you'll still have to drive 45 min-1hr to get to a trailhead. We tried to snag tickets for The Wave at the Kanab Visitor Center a few times, but no luck. This is also about an hour away.
Internet was intermittent at best. We wavered between a very slow 3 bars of LTE on Verizon to 2 bars to 3G at times. Not reliable at all, so if you need consistent internet for work, I would not recommend this place
If wanted to go back to this area, I'd look for a place closer to Kanab- much better location and town.

Great camping on a nice sandy beach right on Lake Powell. There are some spots where the sand could get someone stuck but the majority of the beach is safe for rigs of all sizes. We camped right on the water without any trouble. This site is popular so you won't have the beach to yourself but it is worth it.

As soon as you cross the stateline from AZ into UT, look for the Glen Canyon Rec Area sign for Lone Rock. Turn right there.
We stayed here the beginning of April. So it was too cold to go swimming. But the lake was calm & quiet & empty except for a few kayakers. We were 1 of maybe 25 RVs on the whole beach. The days were sunny and the nights were perfect for a campfire. We met many of our neighbors and had a great time wandering the beach. Some of the paths leading to the beach were sketchier than others, so a scout session could alleviate you getting stuck in the sand. We had no issues.
This is not a free spot, but for the location and views, is well worth the $14 a night (or $7 if you have an ACCESS pass). We had zero Tmobile reception. There was water fill & a dump station after the pay station.
Convenient location to the Carl Hayden Visitor Center & Glen Canyon Damn, Horseshoe Bend, and the southern rugged parts of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

We don’t like sand but this sand was more dense than usual. We were in the beach but didn’t didn’t camp right on the water. No problems with soft sand. WINDY.
Views beautiful and the light in the evening was striking.

plenty of space for everyone. They have several large trash bins and plenty of bathrooms for whoever need them.
There is also one dumping site + water (free).
Be careful bringing a large rig to the south edges of the park. Yes the beach is much nicer there but so is the sand. You will get stuck if you go on that side of the camp.
Stay on the north side and you will be fine.
Be aware, between Feb-May expert high winds to ruin your good times. If you are lucky enough to be there with no wind prepared to have a blast.

This place was absolutely gorgeous until the wind picked up. We did fine in 2wd towing our travel trailer. I could stay here forever if the wind didn’t blow us out. Cut our trip short and only stayed 1 night. Will go back again.
