Franklin Canyon Park is a public park located near Benedict Canyon at the eastern end of the Santa Monica Mountains. The park comprises 605 acres, and is located at the purported geographical center of the city of Los Angeles. The park features a 3-acre lake, a duck pond and over five miles of hiking trails. The lake and pond are visited by birds in the Pacific Flyway. The park was used for the hitchhiking scene in It Happened One Night, and the opening credits of The Andy Griffith Show. Both the pond and the park were used heavily by early television production companies in the 50’s and 60’s as a close and cheap way of shooting on location in a wooded area. This meant a massive amount of TV’s most classic programs were shot here including Lassie, The Brandy Bunch, Star Trek, and Bonzana. You can go re-live some of your favorite scenes for yourself!!
