Lazy A Ranch

Austin County is named for Stephen Fuller Austin, also known as the “Father of Texas”. It was the central site for his colony, the first Anglo-American settlement in Texas in the early 1820’s. The Lazy A Ranch is located between Bellville and Hempstead off Highway 159. The Guest Lodge, a member of the Texas Bed and Breakfast Association, is a three bedroom two bathroom house with long screened porches. New this year is a spiral staircase leading to a new fourth bedroom loft. It is listed on the website and includes a carport and fenced yard. This was the original house on the ranch and later became the ranch manager’s house. The Guest Lodge was built in the early 1950’s as the first house at the ranch. Later it became the Manager’s House. It is near the barn, pens, and equipment barn and was refurbished in 2008. As you approach the house the new two acre pond is on the right, across the road from the house. Enter the Guest Lodge driveway across the cattle guard into the barbed wire fenced yard. Beautiful pecan and oak trees shade the yard. Drive into the covered carport. The garden includes picnic table, chairs, hanging swing, gas grill, bird feeder, and bird bath. The house, with central heat and air conditioning, has ceiling fans throughout and screened porches that encompass two sides of the house with doors opening to the dining room, living room, and master bedroom. The screened porches are furnished with rattan furniture and Sunbrella fabrics. The living and dining room has a wood burning fireplace and paneled wall and bookcases. There is a full sized dining table and a game table and sofa seating area. The Guest Lodge has three bedrooms, two baths, and a storage loft. The master bedroom is furnished with a king sized antique iron bed, the second bedroom has a queen sized sleigh bed, and the third bedroom has a full sized bed. A queen sized air bed is available. Furnishings and antiques offer a true Texas ranch atmosphere. The kitchen is fully equipped including refrigerator/freezer, range, exhaust fan, compact dishwasher, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, cooking utensils, dishes and silverware. Guests are supplied with a continental breakfast. Groceries and restaurants are available in Bellville and a small grocery store and filling station is in Cochran, just a few miles away.
