Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on January 05, 2021I was camping at Owl Canyon, but had no internet signal, so I drove down to Sawtooth Canyon to see what the signal was like there (usable Verizon 4G, but slow). On the way I saw people camping off Barstow Road here and at Stoddard Wells Road, so I submitted them both to Campendium.
This is on the eastern edge of Stoddard Valley OHV area. It's a large, flat area with a solid surface, about 500 ft from Barstow Road on an excellent dirt road. A number of RVs could camp here without being close together. It's a nice site, in a picturesque valley. There was not much traffic, and none at night, so noise was not a problem. There are more camping areas further down the dirt road. There was some OHV traffic when I checked the site out on Sunday, but it was deserted when I moved here on Monday, and remained so through Friday when I left.
Verizon 4G was the fastest I have ever seen. 5 bars, -84 dB, 77 Mbps down and 43 up. The tower was 2 miles away. There is another tower, probably ATT, just 1/2 mile away.

A big sandy parking lot for ohv, easy access from the main road and easy to find in the late night, perfect for boondocking.

If your looking for a free place to boondock that’s only 15 mins from town, then this place is it. I came from sawtooth canyon campground (service down there was minimal) and I noticed other rvs were here, where the cell service was much MUCH better. This is for off roading and dirt biking, but I came on a Sunday evening and noticed everyone was packing up. I was the only one there my second night. During the day if you don’t like the noise from the ohv, then this won’t be for you (seems like most people only come on weekends anyway) However, once the sun goes down so does the noise and everyone is camp-firing and having a great time. Will def be back

I stopped here on my way to Joshua Tree. There is lots of room and I did not venture very far into the trails/road. Good cell signal and fairly quiet on a weeknight.

Easy place to find with coordinates and signage. Careful somebody is behind you they don’t like to slow down. Great place for overnight or even longer to explore the desert. Didn’t go to far in as I was concerned about wet sand and getting stuck so pulled into first area. It was closer to the highway then I’d like to be and could hear truck noise throughout the night. Beautiful sunset would stay here again.
great 5G cell service.

Camped here for one night with 32 ft fifth wheel- pulled into first large spot on the right as we didn’t want to get too far in, but could see other larger trailers further in. We ended up here after trying to get a spot further up the road at Sawtooth Canyon CG but not finding one (4pm Thursday). This was fine for the night- a little bit of road noise but not too bad. Seemed like it was going to be busy with OHV for the weekend so we headed out after one night.

Maybe at weekdays it’s for boondockers a good area. Now, Friday 10 pm it’s the time for the engines.
Tomorrow I will go to another area. This is exact what I don’t want as a boondocker.
