“the perfect family picnic spot”
Kern River County Park holds two vast picnic grounds, each accommodating several thousand people. Both facilities are in such demand that coals in the deep pits sometimes remain hot from one group to the next. Reservations and Permits from the Kern County Parks and Recreation Department are necessary for use of either site.

Ratings Summary
Cons: most of the people that use this campground have no respect for the river. The river has trash all along side of it. This includes: dirty diapers, beer cans, food; cups, plates- you name it. It's such a shame because it makes the river look dirty. The rangers that care for the park don't seem to care how people litter their trash everywhere (they just seem to care about collecting the campsite money). The bathrooms are to be desired. The men's bathroom are beyond filthy with no stall doors.
Pros: there is a river right in front of the campground that you can go in (swim with caution)
Pros: The campground itself is pretty because it's grassy all around.
This campground is truly a gem! We had a long day’s drive and really needed a quiet campground to relax in. Apple Maps took us to the wrong side of the river, 18 miles out of the way. When we hit a dirt road dead end, we realized that we needed to try again. Google Maps took us to the right place! The camp sites are level, paved, and most are pull-through. There are no hookups but there is a dump station and water. You can also run generators. The bathrooms are super clean and the showers are amazing! We have 3 bars of Verizon signal here. Congratulations to Kern County for creating such a wonderful space! We would highly recommend this campground to anyone in need of a peaceful respite or even a longer stay!
