Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on May 10, 2021We love camping in the Mojave National Preserve and this spot did not disappoint. There are only a handful of sites, so if you see a few RVs or tents from the road, you'll want to continue to another location. If you don't see any other campers, I recommend scouting before taking your RV down the dirt road (it's a bit sandy).
About half a mile down the road is where our group stayed (also where the pinpoint is on Campendium). We comfortably fit three Airstreams and one van.
Temps dropped below freezing in February, though overall, it was a great place to camp.

I went ahead and took the first spot (on the left) since no one was out here. I love being in places where I don't have to cover the windows!
The road in was fine and short. A little wobbly, but no big deal if you go slowly.
I was able to find a level spot easily.
I can see the freeway from here, but it wasn't noisy during the night.
I'm right near the first big mount of rocks and love scrambling. Just watch for loose rocks here - there are LOTS!.
Baker doesn't have much, so be sure you have groceries.
I had good AT&T and Verizon.

Got here late (around 11pm) and went to sleep. Very hot at night 100 only dropped to about 90, and rose quickly in the morning. Additionally, when we let ourselves and dogs out in the morning, we set a small waterbowl out for them. Quickly about 5 bees were flying around and seemed to need some water. After about 5 minutes there was a swarm of bees surrounding our van and crowding the waterbowl... it must be too hot for them because they came quickly and all immediately went to the water bowl. There is no way I was going to pick up the bowl (so sorry for littering in nature) but would stay here again if the bees were not a part of the picture!

Great spot in Mojave National Preserve. Beautiful sunsets and lots of hiking reasonable nearby. Bees have been mentioned. Yes, there are thirsty bees. I enjoyed putting out a dish of water with some rocks in it so they could get a drink. I just put it 30 feet from my trailer. The road in is good, maybe a little soft in places, but nothing that will cause any issues. If you go more than 3/4 of a mile in, there are no places to turn around easily to backtrack, so be careful with that. I expect to stay here again when I'm in the area.

Simply beautiful and easy to get to. Sand is soft but not too treacherous, but have yet to attempt this place with a trailer.

We pulled off the Kelbaker Road and headed for this location, which is ONLY about 1/2 mile in. It’s right next to the only (small at that) rock outcropping that is really near to the road. It was occupied, so we kept driving.
2-1/2 miles later, not having found a decent turnaround location, we tried turning around at an ‘iffy’ spot. Got stuck.
‘Enjoyed’ Camp Stuck for the night and got a $200 assist out in the morning from A-1 Towing (Baker CA). Good cell service saved our bacon.
Lesson: if rock outcrop location, 1/2 mile in, is unavailable, turnaround (it’s rocky enough right there to do so)...or back out to Kelbaker and look elsewhere.

Got here right at sunset. There are several areas along the dirt road. We tucked in right behind a large rock mound. Great views and experience.

We were going to Las Vegas and found our area to stay overnight this was 10 miles from the highway, just a little bit of dirt road at the end (about half a mile), but we managed to do it with our class A, 32 foot long. Cell signal for T-Mobile is decent here 3 or sometimes 2 bars. No noise low wind fairly clean.

About 15 minute drive east of Baker. Easy access for our 21 foot off road camper. Some areas of soft sand. Slightly sloping site with fire pit next to rock outcrop. Great sunrise and sunsets. Very little trash when we arrived which we promptly picked up as we always do. Went out for a short excursion and when we arrived a couple hours later surprised to see that at least two of the sites had new “No Camping” signs. Do there are now about 2 designated sites left within about 1/4 mile from Kelbaker Road.
