It's been 2 yrs since we've stayed here but visited many times prior to that
Kingman wash seemed to be the only "close to Vegas" camp location that hasn't been over run. Hope that's still the case.
It's right on the water just above Hoover dam. The 3m access rd (#70, 2m S of the CO river) was suitable for even the largest rigs although there's 1 narrow section w/ steep drops on both sides that may raise your blood pressure. Wait 'till you're beyond it to resume admiring the beautiful, multi-colored rock formations called "The Paint Pots". The 2 vault toilets are now hundreds of yds above the beach due to the extremely low level of L Mead. In many visits the most company we've had have been 2-3 other rigs although the Vegas scuba club trains there regularly. Lots of room to spread out but you may wanna stay back some from the beach for more privacy from day visitors
There's some awesome nearby hiking: A rt turn onto rd 70c will take you in 1m to trailhead for "Fortification Hill", a <2m climb to an incredible lookout over Mead, the Vegas casinos, & Mt Charleston beyond. A bushwack loop from camping area can take you to & from the ridge overlooking Hoover dam.
In NV immediately beyond the new bridge over the CO you can find the "Goldstrike Hot springs trailhead which won't disappoint unless it's overly crowded (We stay away if more than 6 vehicles @ trailhead- avoid weekends) Back on AZ on Rte 93, 2.2m S of Kingman wash rd is the new trailhead for AZ Hot Springs. Can't recall quality of phone or internet access we had. Nor if there were trash receptacles

We wanted to write our experience here so you don’t make the same mistake as us haha. We camped off kingman wash road at the first pull off. After our 3rd night, a park ranger told us we couldn’t park there but would allow us to stay one more night because we were compliant and were leaving in the morning. There aren’t any “no camping signs” and were fire pits set up from previous campers so we thought it was fine. Whoops! He said if we were from Arizona or Nevada he would have written us a ticket...

All that to say, keep driving the entire road until you reach the end of the road about 3 miles up. That’s where you are ACTUALLY supposed to camp haha.

It’s a pretty busy camping area and lots of traffic in and out but you can’t beat full cell service and close to the Hoover Dam, Arizona Hot Springs trail, and the tunnel trail. Lots of outdoor activities to do there. Definitely recommend!

Just don’t make our mistake or you will be asked to move or might get a ticket :-/

Perfect stop to stay the night if your on the road and need to pull over. Because it is so convenient it does get pretty full.

Road is washboard but a number of cars were at the lake. View outstanding. The camp sites are not level. Well marked Exit 2 in AZ.

We had good Cell phone services.

We camped in a 30 foot fifth wheel. Lots of space for any size RV. About 10 families were swimming in the lake on a Sunday afternoon but still lots of room.

Stopped here for a night during a long drive. Accessible easily from 93, though confirming road is washboard and time consuming if you don’t have 4x4, but definitely doable. Amazing views and sunrise over the water. Near Hoover Dam. Not too much traffic, saw about 10 cars in and out during the 10 hours we spent there.

So firstly let me point out that we were driving a Kia Optima. The road and campground is a wash and there was a big storm the other day so the road was a little more rough than normal we were told. If it is raining or a chance of rain do not stay here. This is a big “secret” local spot. When we arrived there was a lot of locals swimming, cooking, and fishing. They all left and some campers came in to join us. One was a local (who ended up throwing a party all night #annoying) and the other was a fellow roadtripper who towed in a pop up. We ended up camping thirty feet fro lake mead this was so wonderful. Great sunset. In the morning the campground filled up really quick because apparently this is a huge local and scuba diving spot

Spent a week here so far and the views have been amazing. So many things to do hike, fish, and apparently scuba. Or just enjoy the scenery. Gets busy during the day from locals diving but silent at night. Roads a bit bumpy coming in but worth it I think. Not super level spots so bring blocks

I’ll start off by saying we are in a 40’ 5th wheel and from the reviews here I figured it was good.

Should have scouted it, but we weren’t close enough prior. In hindsight, I’m glad we didn’t because I wouldn’t have tried to get in.

It was tough. It took at least 45 minutes to get back there, and another 15-20 to set up. I tried a few spots and ended up having to go up to the pad before the bathrooms. There are a few spots coming in that could certainly use a grader, especially the narrows.

We loved it! The view is STUNNING! We had big horn sheep greet us on the high ledges and burros two of the days. It’s a pretty busy place and a lot of day traffic but everyone was super friendly.

I would note, I felt bad for running my on board generator. There’s so few people camping and such a serene view that it didn’t feel right. But we live in our rig and the daily life had to go on.

I am a Jeep camper so I will preface with the fact that this area is much better suited for campers with rigs. There is ZERO privacy when you need to change etc unless you have a rig. Bathrooms are a drive to get to or a long walk depending upon where you set up.

During the day be prepared for this spot to be crowded with people fishing and paddling the day away. It can get loud during the day. Remember if you don't have a rig there is no privacy so that is why this spot didn't get 5 stars.

The redeeming quality is that when everyone leaves at night it is stunning. The sunset over the lake and canyon is breathtaking and the sunrise is just as amazing.

I would stay here again on a quick overnight but I think there are more secluded spots in the area for some more privacy.

We have a 27' trailer towed by a RAM 1500 2WD crew cab and it was a little stressful getting in and out but totally worth it. I won't do it again without 4WD because on the way out some of the small hills are pretty steep and my tires were slipping a bit before cresting the hill. We stayed
over the Good Friday and Easter extended weekend and there was only one decent spot we could access when we rolled in Friday afternoon. Saturday morning a really good spot opened up and we moved over to it; what a spectacular view of lake Mead and the surrounding mountains. Make sure to bring everything you need; my wife forgot some medicine so she called in a script to Walmart in Henderson, NV and it took me about two hours to go there and back including a fillup for the truck. I use a predator 3500 inverter generator and was able to leave it on for as long as I needed it. We walked around and down to the water to see how loud it was but our site was so far from everyone on this generator is pretty quiet that you could not hear it until very close to our trailer. There is a lot of wind when the sun goes down but it settled down after dark and was very peaceful. As other reviews have stated there is a lot of local traffic so try to get a site away from the trail that goes in and out of the waterfront access.
