“Sunset Capital of Texas”
The The Oasis on Lake Travis is a popular restaurant on the western edge of Austin, Texas. The restaurant promotes itself as the "Sunset Capital of Texas" with its terraced views looking west over Lake Travis. The thirty thousand square foot restaurant sits on a bluff 225 feet above the lake and is the largest outdoor restaurant in Texas. The restaurant was first built in 1982 by Houston entrepreneur Beau Theriot, who purchased a 500acre ranch overlooking the lake and converted it into the current multi-use venue. On the morning of June 1, 2005, a lightning strike ignited a fire which consumed much of the property. Parts of the facility that were not damaged were reopened within weeks, and other parts have had to be rebuilt.MiscellaneousThe Oasis Restaurant is not the Oasis from Garth Brooks' song "Friends in Low Places". "The Oasis" in the Brooks song refers to a bar in Concordia, KS. Jim Garver, Garth's guitarist, added "The Oasis" to the song referring to a former small bar in his hometown of Concordia.
This place is beautiful and there are little shops and places to eat in the area. The food is mediocre though.
Great view, mediocre food. The chips and salsa were great, but our entries weren't very good.
The food is incredibly expensive for how small the portions are. However, the food was fantastic quality, the staff was nice, and the view was worth the dinner bill. Bring a date, go before sunset, bring your wallet (and bug spray)
Delicious
Sunsets and sitting under umbrellas with a glass of beer / wine in your hand. Guaranteed to make you smile. Almost all seating has fantastic view!
Go for sunset and enjoy the best evening view in Austin! (lower your expectations of the food though and be pleasantly surprised)
This is the restaurant I chose for my birthday. It was so amazing & we cant wait to go back!
📍 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕆𝕒𝕤𝕚𝕤 ℝ𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕒𝕦𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕥 & 𝔹𝕒𝕣 on Lake Travis, known as The Sunset Capitol of Texas, has an insanely massive layout with beautiful intricate structures all planted nicely throughout a greenery garden winding up to the entrance. The decor didn’t stop from there & was just as beautiful inside. The best part & our main reason to visit were the views you get from the back patio! We couldn’t believe how high up we were looking over the big & bright blue lake! Buy a “Lover’s Lock” from the gift shop inside, write your names, & find a place to put it to lock in the memories you made here.
We had decent food with pictures to show for, along with a cool video 😉 Y’ALL don’t want to miss these views!
Go at sunset, be prepared to wait. There are shops to shop in and a candy shop. The view is amazing! The food is ok, it’s expensive. Be sure to get a lock and lock it on the railing. They have them in a gift shop or you can bring your own. Cool art and decor.
