“They bring the ranch to you”
Contigo—the mostly-outdoor East Austin restaurant—is modeled after Contigo, the ranch in South Texas. Contigo describes its fare as “fresh, quality bar food.” That means snacks and small plates to share, like crispy green beans or ox tongue sliders. Pair them with the well-made but unfussy cocktails, like the Rancher's Punch.
I must say, the concept of Contigo is very fun and enjoyable. It looked like some kind of a ranch with a very relaxed environment. It's all outdoor "al fresco" seating gives it a nice chill vibe. My boyfriend and I went here for brunch. I have eaten rabbit meat before, but those doesn't even compare to Contigo's Rabbit and Dumplings. It's definitely one of the best that I have had. The meat was perfectly tender and the stew that came with it had a good kick of flavor in it. My boyfriend, on the other hand, ordered their beef tongue hash. He made me take a bite which was a hefty combination of rich and creamy eggs, hollandaise, fresh scallions, crispy potato and of course the salty beef tongue. It was heaven in my mouth! All these together is just perfect! The only major bummer is that it can get really warm here in some days. Aside from that, everything, including service, is definitely great!
This Texas ranch-inspired restaurant practically epitomizes Austin with its outdoor, communal seating and laid-back vibe. There's a focus on house made sausages, charcuterie and updated comfort foods. Think succulent rabbit and dumplings, served in a cast iron skillet and topped with biscuits seasoned to the hilt with sage.
