“a tradition of quality & service”
The first hazelnut (filbert) tree was planted in Scottsburg, Oregon around 1857. In 1876 a Frenchman, David Genot, had hazelnut seeds sent from France. He raised these first 50 plants in a hedgerow in the old country tradition. The size and quality of the original nut has been developed through the years with the Pacific Northwest climate and cultivation. Now 98% of all hazel nuts grown in the United States are from our lush Willamette Valley in Western Oregon. Pacific Hazelnut Candy Factory has developed a tradition of quality and service. Care is given from grading nuts through product development in the kitchen to assure consistent fine products. In addition to roasting and seasoning nuts we also chocolate coat hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, prunes and pretzels. Our hazelnut toffee developed in our own kitchen was featured in Bon Appetit magazine. Our gift shop is always ready for factory viewing and tasting samples. Gift boxes and baskets filled with our confections and other Oregon products are a favorite.
My husband gave me grief for wanting to stop here but once inside we were greeted by a very nice and informative salesperson who let us taste all their variety of coated and roasted hazelnuts. Their filberts are really big too! We bought gift sized packs like orange dark chocolate and rosemary roasted and salted hazelnuts. Also, down the street you can see the tall hazelnut trees for a good photo-op!
It's just a gift shop stop to try the nuts and candy. A quiet, small stop for a little treat. The toffee may be popular but the nuts are the star.
