“scenic southeastern Oklahoma”
Historic Boggy Depot Park in Atoka, named for the nearby Cleary Boggy Creek, once served as a site for the Chickasaws to pick up supplies as they arrived in Indian Territory, a Confederate commissary depot during the Civil War and home to Choctaw Chief Allen Wright and other prominent Choctaw citizens in the 1800s. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The Park now boasts a fishing lake, nature trails, a playground, picnic areas and lodging for tents and RV’s, including showers. Boggy Depot Park offers a place of rest where visitors can enjoy scenic southeastern Oklahoma.
