Within 30 miles, there are numerous hiking trails from easy to difficult, as well as numerous fishing opportunities. What we like best about this area is there is a lot of public water along the Conejos River (nearby on Elk Creek too) and you don't need a guide to fish it. Also nearby is Trujillo Reservoir, great for float tube fishing with a fly rod or spin rod. As well there are a few mountain lakes you have to hike to, but worth the hike for those who fish and even for those who don't fish. Gold panning, rock hounding, seasonal berry picking or mushroom hunting round out the adventures. Of course the famous Toltec Railroad where you can take a beautiful train ride through the Colorado and New Mexico mountains is fun too.
Nice quiet campground that looks good for family. If your driving the speed limit slow down a half mile before you get there or you will miss the entrance. There is not ANY cell service for this area. You can drive about 5 miles and get a signal.

This is a beautiful place to stay! Easy to find! Big sites! Free laundry with a request for donations. Clean bathroom/shower. A few miles from town that has a small grocery store with items that would be needed.
