“40 years of unique gifts”
Lots of specialty toys, and weird finds. You can purchase unique kitchen supplies, stationary, home decor, jewelry, and skincare. There are lots of books about Ann Arbor, and the surrounding areas, as well. Make sure you take a peek inside the fairy door outside. The pint-sized doors began showing up in storefronts, shops, restaurants, and buildings, sometime during 2005, and they have continued to appear out of thin air ever since. The mysterious doors have become so popular in fact, they've acquired their own cult following of fans who travel from all over just to see them in person. On April 7, 2005 the very first door appeared outside Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea, and after only 10 days another outside the Peaceable Kingdom store. The second door even had a window, and peekers were elated to find that inside was a replica of the entire store, only fairy sized.
This is a great little shop for trinkets and random goodies. There is an ample selection of cheaper kids toys and some that can get quite expensive, such as Totoro toys. Peaceable Kingdom is one of the greatest gift shops Ann Arbor has. You can't help but be immediately pulled towards the mansion-sized long table where many unusual wind-up toys and geegaws are displayed. You can also find nice jewelry, even bigger toys, local art, cards of all kinds for all occasions, and Japanese ceramics.
On your way out, be sure to duck down to get a good glimpse of those fairies in their fairy store. They are home to one of Ann Arbor's teeny fairy doors.
