“Enjoy Freshly Caught Dinner!”

Pleasantly located on several small bluffs that extend over and into the Toledo Bend Reservoir, South Toledo Bend State Park offers a scenic, waterfront view from many vantage points. While the reservoir is nationally recognized as a destination for bass fishing tournaments, visitors to the park can also enjoy other outdoor recreational activities such as hiking, cycling, birding, camping and enjoying the many forms of wildlife in the area. The area also is a common nesting ground for the bald eagle, which feeds from the plentiful supply of freshwater fish – including largemouth bass, catfish, bream and white perch – found in the Reservoir. The avid fisher can set out onto the reservoir at the two-lane boat ramp area, to also enjoy a freshly-caught dinner. An open-air breezeway leads out to the observation deck and a majestic view of the reservoir lake and nearby islands. A 3,000-foot surfaced nature trail provides an opportunity for all visitors to explore the area around the Visitor Center and the RV camping areas. Also nestled among the trees near the Visitor Center are several picnic tables, so visitors can enjoy a lunch or snack while enjoying their day at South Toledo Bend State Park.

if you are over 62, LA state parks have a 50% discount on camping, but you have to ask for it when you check in. There are no FHU's but we had a nice pull thru site with elect and water. The lake is a great fishing destination and there are floating piers several places in the campground. You are required to having fishing license, but it can be either LA or TX.
We stayed in early Feb, only the weekend was busy, during the week was very quiet, so reservations a must for weekends and probably spring/summer months.
WIFI was good until the park got busy, then slowed down to a crawl 1 sunday morning, but it was expected. ATT cell service was iffy at best.
Sites are nice size, can fit almost any size rig, and not piled on top of each other. They are paved, some leveling may be required, but definitely doable. Restrooms/Showers are great and clean. There is even laundry at reasonable $.
Campground hosts were great, informative and helpful.
The only issue is they have to fix the roads in the park, badly damaged and needs repair, so drive slow and careful.

Nice, spacious sites with great space between. 50A/30A and water at sites. Dump station. Wi-Fi didn’t work but they were trouble shooting it. There was some litter that we wouldn’t have expected in a state park. Bathhouse with coin laundry. Nice nature path and visitor center. Not much else to do if you don’t have a boat. Roads in the park were full of deep potholes that really got the rig rocking even at a crawl.

Had a very nice stay here in the off season. We had a deck and a winter lake view. The walking paths are very nice. The staff was helpful and friendly. The bathroom was clean and warm. The water pressure was low, but they were running all of the spigots to keep from freezing so it was expected. I had a T-Mobile internet box and it had 4 bars when it was outside & one bar in the camper. The only downfall was the roads coming in. So many pot holes to navigate. Regardless, I'll be back!

There's a ton of wonderful things to say about this park. But before you get to enjoy them, and after you're done, you must navigate the most destructive entry road I've ever seen to a developed campground. The worst is about .1 of a mile and it's outside the campground. But you'll do more damage to your coach in that .1 mile than in 10 miles of washboard. No matter how slowly you proceed, you'll be swaying like a swing and throwing anything unsecured around your rig. Make sure everything in your fridge is locked down before starting. Once you enter the campground, the roads are no longer dangerous. But they still aren't pleasant, and desperately need repaving.

That said, the campground is fantastic! Two excellent, albeit short hiking trails. Several nature paths too. Sites are well spaced, easily accessible, and ideally wooded. Dump station is a tad tight, but manageable. Views of the reservoir are ideal. Nearly every site has some sort of view, but a few are pretty limited by trees.

About 1/3 of the sites have there own 30x15 wooden deck next to the pad. Great water views. Boat docks to dock your boat near your campsite. Also Glamping tents set up on Hippie Point very cool. Road on the way in is a bit rough.

The park in itself is nice and moderately maintained. The huge issue here at this time is the infestation of gnats and mosquitoes and no wind on most sites. The sites with some air circulating are reserved by locals and they show up when they want. Unfortunate that beautiful sites with a breeze could not be used. The beach is not accessible by pets. So in essence we remained captive inside of the RV for most of the time here. Entrance to park has a bumpy road but not like off road stuff. Just has holes and not a well maintained road.

Backing in a 40ft 5th wheel was a bit tight as the road and campsite pad are not wide and you sink in the ground so be careful!

If you come here and can book it, site 35 and 37 are the best.

We left before our last day as we couldn’t deal with the bugs and high humidity. Locals say it’s usually not this way and a pleasurable stay. So this review may be a “point in time “ situation.

Only LA folks here. Saw no one from out of state. Most come here for bass fishing which is rated one of the best in the United States.

During the week (mid Jan), this park was empty and peaceful (only one other guest at the park). On the weekends, it's a zoo. It's a beautiful park, and there are several docks right down the hill from the RV sites. The docks are floating, so even when there was a pretty howling wind and large seas (it was like the ocean beach for two days), we weren't worried about the boat being tied up there.

The sites have an asphalt pad (which is terribly uneven), a tent site (for a tent or canopy), a wood deck (only the ones on the water side), electricity, water, a fire ring, and the aforementioned dock slip. There's a dump station on the way out. Everything is in very good shape except the road which has potholes large enough to hide a gator or two. There are trash cans every few sites, but unfortunately they are not animal-proof, and there are raccoons. On the weekend mornings on my way to the bathroom, I had to stop at each one and put the trash back in. TIP: if you're at a park with unsecured trash cans, please don't put your trash in them until morning.

The bathrooms are really nice. The showers are large with good pressure/temperature. On the weekends, they must have have cleaned them four times a day. They would get destroyed by kids; one time, my husband tells me the men's had mud on *everything* - the floor, the sinks, the walls, the stalls, but a couple hours later, it was clean again. The only bad thing is (at least in the women's), the toilets don't have the anchor nuts on them, so they rock back and forth when you sit down. I was always worried that the seal was going to break.

The lake was down a couple of feet, and the boat launch has a shallow slope, so it was one of the more difficult places for to launch the sailboat - we had to really push and pull to get it off the trailer. It's an interesting lake. If you don't know anything about Toledo Bend, I suggest you look into the charts before you launch. When it was built, they didn't clear any trees, and it's a minefield of hazards for even a shallow-draft boat. They have marked "roads" that are like shipping lanes but for small craft. We had never been on a lake like that before. The roads are well marked except when coming out of the bay with the boat ramp. You will need to take a right-turn out of the bay and go *between* the island and the point to catch the first of the markers. It gets very shallow for a couple dozen yards (we had maybe 6" under the keel) right at the narrowest part of the pass, so go slowly. I do not suggest sailing through that pass, but once on the road, depth is no problem, and we had some great sailing up/down the coast and across to TX.

There are several hiking trails, and a good number of them are actually concreted. The trail to the visitors' center is especially nice as you cross a lovely covered bridge/pier. They rent the facility out, and it would make a beautiful setting for a wedding or a family reunion.

There is also an OHV park on site which we had thought about trying out, but we ended up being too lazy to take the motorcycles out, so I cannot comment on it other than from what I saw, it looked like a fun ride.

AT&T had no cell coverage (not sure how you select "no coverage" versus "I didn't try it") at the RV sites, though we did get a little near the boat ramp, and out on the lake the signal was excellent.

The park wi-fi has a strong signal. As with most RV parks, it was slow, but the really annoying thing was the net nanny software they have running on the router. I can understand blocking porn, movie streaming services, and gaming sites for bandwidth reasons, but it also blocks sites like imgur and bbcnews.

We met some friends here for the Christmas and New Year's holiday and had a wonderful time. Prior to making our reservation online we called ahead of time to get a list of sites that offered the deck. Because were trying to find two side by side. We ended up staying in Site 44 and our friends in Site 45. Our site had both 30 & 50 amp options with two water spouts. We absolutely LOVED our site! We have a 25' Minnie Winnie and a truck. Everything would have fit on the main drive as it was a 47' site. But we wanted our outdoor kitchen to be on the decked area so we pulled the trailer up some and parked off to the side. The deck was a must during our stay because it rained almost every day we were there. So we were able to sit under awning on the deck and stay dry. Our site felt very private because on one side was a wooded area and the other was our friends. The site had a large deck and then you walk down to the picnic table, fire ring, and tent pad area. There was a foot trail in between our two sites that walked down to the floating dock. The pavement or the trailer was level for the most part but did have to use a few leveling blocks.

Our ATT only had one bar at the site and sometimes none inside the trailer. But luckily the WIFI at the park worked great for us to get some work done on our laptop. But it did block any TV streaming. We were able to use our ATT hotspot streaming on the outdoor TV and sometimes inside. The park was pretty empty assuming due to rain and holidays but it was perfect. Great trails and just the relaxation we needed. The front gates lock at night but a code is provided. We had great takeout from Curtis Grocery about 15 minutes away. The closes big grocery store is in Leesville about 40 min. away. So get your groceries on the way in. The park staff was so nice. The showers were very well taken care of, with plenty of hot water and private dressing areas. Would definitely return!

We have been talking about coming here for weeks, since its only 160 miles from our home base. Thanks to Hurricane Barry, we are here now- drove northwest to avoid the storm.

Our arrival and check-in was easy. While driving in, we are surprised by the lack of campers, ~ 8, thinking others would be here because of the hurricane and it is summertime. The asphalt park roads obviously need some repair. We go slow over the few damaged sections and arrive at site 37, a "premium" site located on the waterfront. This site is not as level as I would like, but we manage to override the auto-level function that informs us- "excess slope". If looking for a level site, the best option is the pull-through sites.

Although this is a rainy trip, we find time and enough clear weather to fish from one of the three piers near-by. We also hiked the Lake View trail. This is a concrete path that follows the lake shore from the camping area to the visitors center; roundtrip about 4000 steps. Check out the pictures.

Restrooms/bathhouse is clean and well maintained. There are washers/dryers available, $1 each. There is a boat launch and fish cleaning station near the launch. The Visitors Center is large. See Pictures.

There are no real negatives to report, but it is obvious that my home state needs additional park staff and some maintenance issues addressed. We will definitely return to this SP, with a boat, in clear weather.

I love this park. You can get a site with waterfront view and a private wood deck. The sunsets are pretty spectacular.

It is really in the middle of nowhere so we only stayed a weekend late fall as we traveled from TX to AR.

There are good trails. Clean baths.
Pretty visitor area and swim beach.
The roads need some TLC but the sites themselves are fantastic.
Great for a few days.
We had a hard time getting satellite TV but we survived 😉
