The day use area is still open with vault toilets etc. We just parked off to the side and not in a site and noone gave us any issues with staying over one night. Perfect spot to stay if your headed up HWY 1 .

Such an amazing place to camp. Just walk across the road and you are on an incredible beach with a beautiful view. The spots are small, so you are right next your neighbor, but honestly I would rather just spend the evening out on the beach. A little pricey for just a vault toilet. Would definitely stay here again.

Really in a small parking lot with views of the water and rocks if you stand on top of some huge logs on the elevated sand between you and the water
Walk a block on the sand and it is very nice
Parking spots have some sand on top of blacktop but no drifting sand
At 4 it was mainly empty and at dusk full

Wonderful little spot right on the beach. Sites appear to be all first-come-first-serve; only about a dozen or so camp sites in all - each with a fire pit and concrete picnic table. In spite of all the other reviewers warnings about narrow, pot-holed, challenging access, we ventured in with our 24’ Sprinter van while towing a smart car four-down. It was definitely not the widest or smoothest access road. At some points, if we had encountered another vehicle along the 3/4 mile long access road, we would’ve added some “pin striping” to our van. Fortunately, we made it in and out unscathed without encountering another vehicle.
Once inside, we were greeted with a delightful, peaceful, quiet, and clean campground. We arrived at 5pm on a Sunday afternoon and grabbed the last available spot (site #2) with perfect privacy from all other campers. We were able to run our generator with seemingly no restrictions, I didn’t see any signs about generator hours. Several campers arrived after us and pulled into the day-use parking area to smoke marijuana and hunker down for the night. No sign of a Ranger or anyone verifying payment. They charge $35 per site + $10 for an extra vehicle.
Vault toilets and port-a-potties and garbage/recycling facilities only. No AT&T service until I waded out into the water up to my ankles and grabbed 1 bar of 4G/LTE - enough to send a text but not photos.

Basically a parking lot on the beach. But it’s a beautiful beach so it’s a great spot to camp. Road a bit bumpy to get in but not an issue at all.

When the few sites get filled up, larger rigs will park across the lot, longways, on the view side, blocking your view and easy access to the beach. Had quite a few do this, come in after 5pm and leave early...to avoid paying I'm sure! And they don't care about noise or controlling their dogs. Very disappointed this year with my stay there for the price.

This isn't a horrible location but it's also not as great as these other reviewers claim. Yes, it's at the beach but the topography largely prevents you from seeing the water unless you walk up to the water line.
Walking isn't a horrible thing...except this place is like being in a wind tunnel. Coupled with the sand it's essentially a 24/7 sandstorm pelting any exposed skin with coarse sand. Thankfully, while it's just as windy, that parking lot is packed a bit more or this place would strip the paint off of your car.
On Verizon we had a couple of bars of 1x service - enough to send text messages or make calls. At the waters edge we had 1 bar of 4G.
The toilets were dirty and overly full.
Other campers were quiet and respectful.
