“Out of this world rock formations!”
Vasquez Rocks, located in the high desert near Agua Dulce Springs, features 913 acres of spectacular rock formations, Tataviam Indian sites, and a seasonal stream. The rocks’ history began in prehistoric times when the sandstone rocks were uplifted at a picturesque angle, showing their jagged red features. The park features a few special presentations including "Birds of Prey" which shows off some of the parks predatory birds. This is only during certain months so be sure to call ahead. In 1874 Tiburcio Vasquez, one of California’s most notorious bandits, used these rocks to elude capture by law enforcement. His name has since been associated with this geologic feature. The park is a popular hiking, picnicking, and equestrian area and has been used in many hit movies, television shows and commercials.
Since no one else has mentioned it: Vasquez Rocks holds a special place in nerd culture. It was here that Captain Kirk fought the Gorn in the Star Trek episode called Arena. It's why I went out of my way to visit, and I wasn't disappointed.
Vasquez Rocks is one of the most gorgeous places to go hiking on your own or with family and friends and its free of charge.
These rocks formations are fantastic to see. They look as they have ripped the earth's surface with such a strength only nature can have.
The trails are easy to follow but have in mind there aren't any facilities to buy food or refreshments, so you better have your own.
Also, wear some comfy shoes and climbing-friendly if you want to get on top of the rocks.
It can be fun for everyone, and if you want to get to know how this place has been created then go to the Visitors Center located on site.
We live near the rocks and they are quite spectacular even seeing them often. The town of Agua Dulce is a fun stop as well, just 5 minutes from here.
Pretty awesome formations! They're enormous and pretty easy to climb!
