“celebrate the builder of the world's first”
Darryl Starbird built the world's first bubble-top Car of the Future in 1960. He named it "The Predicta," and it's on display in his personal hot rod museum, along with dozens of other wild vans, pickups, and concept cars. Although technically they're not all cars-of-the-future, nearly all of Starbird's vehicles look like something George Jetson would drive. The 40,000-square-foot museum also houses a replica of the original tin-roofed body shop that Starbird opened in 1954. He lives on the museum property, and he's still building cars. Mar.-Oct. W-M 10-5, or by appt. (Call to verify)
Warning! THIS IS NOT a big rig friendly site! If you are towing with your motor home or your RV is a tow, call ahead and make sure that the lawn is dry enough to turn around on. At $10 a person and having seen so many car museums thus far, I opted to stay in the motor home while my husband spent about an hour visiting and admiring. He said the workmanship was amazing and that while the cars were not his cup of tea, he always values craftsmanship.
It's really cool
