The Chimney Rock Trail, which inspired Georgia O’Keeffe starts at Ghost Ranch, where O’Keeffe lived. The trailhead is behind the Ghost Ranch museums. Cross the arroyo to begin the hike. The Chimney Rock trail is roughly three miles long, round trip. This is a moderate route that climbs from 6,500 to 7,100 feet to this rock formation. Although the path is well maintained, it’s a good idea to wear proper hiking shoes. The route is exposed so be sure to bring plenty of water – and a hat in summer. Near the top, the terrain becomes rocky. Some people like to bring hiking sticks for this section.

I give it 10 stars!!! Seriously, you have to visit this place. Saying the views are breathtaking does this no justice. The entrance has an old church and cabin, which was used in the filming of City Slickers. There have been over 40 movies filmed here including one of my personal favorites (3:10 to Yuma). The color, the texture, the views are unbelievable. You can see the mountains front and center, mountains in the background, rivers, lakes, etc. Take a short climb up to Chimney Rock and you will be speechless.
