McGhee Tyson Airport a public and military airport 12 miles south of Knoxville, in Alcoa, Blount County, Tennessee, United States. It is named for United States Navy pilot Charles McGhee Tyson, lost on patrol in World War I. Owned by the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority,nit sees several major airlines and connection carriers. The airport employs about 2,700 people. It is a 30-minute commute to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This airport is in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which called it a primary commercial service airport since it has over 10,000 passenger boardings (enplanements) per year. Federal Aviation Administration records say the airport had 841,237 enplanements in 2011, an increase from 804,917 in 2010. The airport is the home of McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, an air base for the 134th Air Refueling Wing of the Tennessee Air National Guard.

I enjoyed flying in and out of McGhee Tyson Airport. I was there on business and found it to be a quick and easy airport to get in and out of. When I arrived 90 minutes before my flight, I went through security and I was literally the only person in the security line at 5:30 PM. For an airport of its size there are pretty good choices for food. If you want to sit down and eat you can grab a meal at Ruby Tuesday, or is you want something quick you can hit Quiznos or Cinnabon. There is also a Starbuck for those that are needing a caffeine fix.

The store inside the security area is great as well. There is almost anything you would want in an airport store. There are great gift options, lots of different food choices, and books/magazines.

The gate area was also comfortable and had plenty of seating for the flights.

I also enjoyed taking some time looking at the art exhibit near the security and food area.
