We've always loved to camp.We started off with backpacking several sections of the Appalachian Trail many years ago. Then, when the excitement of being totally off-grid began to wear off (mostly due to aging bones), we started doing more tenting. Although we still love the tenting, COVID taught us that life was much too short and if we really wanted to travel extensively without the huge price tag, getting an RV was the way to go. Fast forward to 2022 and we've enjoyed several trips in our travel trailer already...and at a fraction of the cost of flying, car and accommodation rental. And even better, we get to stay in places that often aren't going to be accessible unless you are camping. A win!

When we started our drive, we were worried that the windy aftermath of Hurricane Fiona was going to make for dangerous driving. Thankfully, there was only a bit of wind and the drive was uneventful with the exception of one traffic jam due to an accident just outside of Augusta, ME.
We enjoyed 7 days and 8 nights of almost perfect fall weather on Mount Desert Island. It's always so hard to pick the activity for the day with dozens of hiking, kayaking and biking routes. Not to mention, the enless opportunities to explore the beautiful Maine coastline make for plenty of slow drives around the area.
A ferry trip to Swan's Island for a day of cycling was one of the hightlights of our time on Mount Desert Island.
Six days in Acadia's quiet side made for a beautiful ending to this trip. Anyone seeking a national park experience without the crowds should consider the Schoodic Peninsula. It is every bit as beautiful as Mount Desert Island with a rocky coastline, beautiful hiking trails and amazing scenery and wildlife. The highlight of this experience was kayaking with seals in the Winter Harbor area!
A day spent exploring Pigeon Hill Preserve and Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge reminded us how important these open spaces are to the planet. Without them, species would perish.

Driving home from Winter Harbor, ME was a feast for the eyes. The fall colors along the roadside were in full display. Echoing the end of a season and the beginning of necesary hibernation.
Thankful to be home safe from this adventure. We have so many wonderful memories to keep us entertained as we wait for our next opportunity to explore the beauty of planet earth.
