Valley Drive - 17 mile loop through Monument Valley. U.S. Route 163 is also know as the road to Monument Valley. The highway cuts straight through the center of the Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, which is a Navajo Nation equivalent to a national park. (through Kayenta, just over AZ border) Just about everyone and John Wayne’s dog has filmed something here, including Stagecoach (1939) and The Searchers (1956). One drive on the park’s 17-mile loop of geologic majesties will make you wonder if you shouldn’t quit your accounting gig and become a cinematographer or a cattle rustler after all.
