Badlands National Park with its moon-like surface is one of the richest Oligocene epoch fossil beds in the world. The jagged spires, eroded buttes and deep crevasses of the Badlands offer unique scenery that you can explore on foot, horseback or by car. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, like big horned sheep, antelope and the black footed ferret.
Just east of the Badlands is the Minuteman Missile Silo National Historic Site, presenting the history and significance of the Cold War, the arms race, and intercontinental ballistic missile development. A relic of the Cold War, the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site serves as a historical reminder of what could have happened.
