“America's Favorite Roadside Attraction!”
Wall Drug Store, often called simply Wall Drug, is a tourist attraction located in the town of Wall, South Dakota. It is a cowboy-themed shopping mall consisting of a drug store, gift shop, restaurants and various other stores, as well as an art gallery and an 80-foot (24 m) brontosaurus sculpture. Unlike a traditional shopping mall, all the stores at Wall Drug operate under a single entity instead of being individually run stores. The New York Times has described Wall Drug as "a sprawling tourist attraction of international renown [that] draws some two million annual visitors to a remote town."
If you are looking for souvenirs they have all you could want. But the restaurant is not where you want to eat. The cod sandwich was 7.00 and it was a pre made square patty that made McDonalds... Read more

Huge waste of time. Do yourself a favor and avoid this destination unless you are looking for a mall. Read more
The place is huge - that was something I didn't expect. The food was crappy (I had a burger and it was incredibly bland). Skip lunch or just have ice cream instead. Beyond that, there are various areas inside (like a small water play area for the kids). I liked looking at the gift shops. After a while, though, you realize that the shops pretty much have various forms of the same thing. It was still fun. Be sure to grab your free bumper sticker! Read more
After seeing hundreds of signs for Wall Drug we had to stop. It's a unique place for sure, but at the same time it's not. It's an over-sized rest stop offering snacks, food, and a bunch of things you don't need. It does have some cool oddities like a mechanical T-Rex and a mechanical Gorilla that plays piano, but you don't need to visit more than once. Read more
The place itself isn't too exciting (fake old-west roadside stop), but the fact that guaranteed you'll see varied, non-descriptive billboards for Wall Drug at least 200 miles out means you have to go see it. Amazing homemade donuts as well. And you can get a bumper sticker that aptly says 'where the heck is Wall Drug.' This place has something for everyone. Read more

Feels like a "must see" with all the highway advertising and it's fun, kitschy, but fun. We have an 11 and 8 year old so they ate it up. Got to spend some souvenir money - I wouldn't make this a personal destination though. Glad we saw it. Don't have to visit again. Read more

We were so bored with the drive by the time we got here so it was a welcome stop. It's a horrible little tourist trap but one you have to see. Too many people made browsing through it difficult. The kids loves the outdoor play area and picture ops. Read more

I think if you drive down I-90 you kind of have to stop here. They deserve some credit for the 10,000 signs you'll encounter the second you hit the state line. It is a tourist trap but there is a lot here. We used it as a place to stretch our legs & grab an ice cream for the kids. Read more
There has never been a more honored tourist trap than Wall Drug. I love how they build the anticipation of getting there with hundreds of billboard reminders. I am a retro billboard junkie and am fascinated by the endless combinations of reminders to stop. When I arrived most of the little shops were closed for the season but Wall Drug remained open for business. I loved the old photographs of famous Indian Chiefs that graced the plains and the old Wall Drugstore menu. I think it’s the most well done and creative tourist stop in the Midwest. Read more

I agree - tourist trap - BUT YOU MUST SEE IT when in the area - you will regret it if you don't - just don't expect anything but a good place to eat and lots of gift shop stuff everywhere. Expect to spend an hour or more if you have lunch. Read more
I decided to go back after 40 years. I loved how they build the anticipation of getting there by hundreds of billboards along I90. Being a retro billboard junkie I was getting a kick out of the advertising. Some I remember as a child and my mind went back to that time and place when our family was driving to the Badlands. It was rather bittersweet as everyone is older now and the parents are not able to travel any longer. When I got there some of the stores on the opposite side of the street were closed due to the off season. It didn’t matter it was I90 and I was headed to the famous Wall Drug. I smiled as I watched those children with their parents enjoying each moment and I too was transported back to those days. Back then a little less developed and more dusty than today’s Wall Drug. Obviously a tourist trap. Silly to think of it as anything but that. Great place to find souvenirs or take photos in the backyard. You can avoid the entire downtown crowd and skip straight to the backyard. We went off season and found it more enjoyable. Read more
Totally great stop for our families. Read the brochure for the history behind Wall Drug. Great story about the family business. We spent an hour laughing at all the kitschy stuff. Found a great magnet and of course had free ice water and 5 cent coffee. The homemade cake donuts were tasty. Lots for the kids to enjoy and plenty of fun family photos. It was a highlight of our road trip. Read more
I had been to Wall Drug as a kid, but my husband hadn't so we stopped. It's just a lot of hype following all the billboards and when you get there it is nothing more than a giant tourist trap which takes up an entire block. I thought it was fun, my husband didn't quite get it. If you have kids, you should stop. A classic spot to pick up a souvenier or two. Many opportunities for Old West photos. To be a kid again:) Read more
If you're driving down Route 90 in South Dakota you can't stop but laugh at all of the billboards they have up about Wall Drug. It's a tourist attraction (not a trap) Stop by if you want a .05 cent coffee, a good doughnut, some fun people viewing and to waltz around in a giant store with old country charm. Every person there is as friendly as can be. It's worth a visit. Read more
Fun stop, would recommend for sure! Read more
Wall Drug is amazing! You start seeing signs for Wall Drug hundreds of miles away... creative, hilarious signs that just build the anticipation. Then you get there and it's like a little town filled with knickknacks, souvenirs, food, toys, shirts, and things to take pictures with like a jackelope or giant dinosaur. If you love playing Big Buck Hunter (Wisconsinites, I'm talking to you), they have that too! We are driving a couple hours out of our way specifically so we can stop at Wall Drug again. People who rate this less than five stars are straight (road)trippin.' Read more

A agree with some previous reviewers that this is a tourist trap. But I will say it is a tourist trap with style. The place is huge. There is ALOT of history on the walls, and areas that will interest everyone. The food is terrible. You should at least see Wall Drug once, but you probably won't have to visit more than that... After all the signs leading up to it we had to stop. For something you didn't have to pay to get into, it was interesting. Kids likes to t-Rex and the water fountains/zone. Prices were high as you would expect for a tourist place and food where we ate wasn't very good, but to just walk around and get the experience it was worth stopping. Read more

Ok, yea it's tourist-y and kitschy, but I think it's a must-do if you're coming out to Rushmore or even passing through. If anything, you'll get some cheap souvenir fridge magnets to give away to friends and family. The western wear shop is great to peruse and imagine your cowboy or cowgirl fantasies, though I was a little bummed to see that they don't do custom steamed hats. They do have some nice gear; tons of boots. We kept seeing adds for Wall Drug as soon as we hit South Dakota, especially ones touting 5 cent coffees and homemade pies. My God! You gotta try their apple pie with the five cent cup of black coffee. It's like they're made for one another. All in all, I'd say do it. I read the bad reviews that it's not worth the stop, but I respectfully disagree. Maybe one thing they could add would be more kids menu items, but we liked the food. The cheap coffee and yummy pie are worth at least a good leg stretch. Read more

A tourist trap, yes, but at least the coffee is actually five cents. Don't forget to grab a bumper sticker. It's a badge of honor, albeit a goofy, I've-driven-through-the-middle-of-nowhere-and-survived honor. Still an honor though. Read more

This is a "tourist trap" that's actually worth stopping at. They still sell coffee for 5 cents a cup. There is a huge gift shop (and multiple smaller gift shops) with tons of knickknacks. If you want souvenirs from your travels then definitely stop here. FYI: The food in the café is horrible. Yes it's a tourist trap, but it is the pinnacle of tourist traps. A full city block of cheap donuts, decent food, fun photo ops, games, 5-cent coffee, free ice water and bumper stickers, strange collections of memorabilia, and, of course, kitschy shops. Total tourist trap, but there are all kinds of oddball things and it's always interesting people-watching. The collection of oil paintings in the dining area is amazing and the fresh-baked donuts are worth the stop. We stop here every time we're heading through. Read more
We had really looked forward to visiting Wall Drug. We were terribly disappointed. Almost everything is made in China, and overpriced. The food may be good, but we did not feel like paying the prices, which seemed very high. I must admit that they did have a good selection of art and leather goods. Read more

There are 4 places you have to see in South Dakota and this is one of them. (Badlands, Corn Palace and Mt. Rushmore are the others - everyone will ask you about those 4, so you might as well see them all.) Tourist trappery at its finest. My ice cream was good. A very very wide selection of merchandise to get you to choose from. The parking lots for Wall Drug are bigger than the rest of the town so that gives you an idea of how crowded the place will be. Read more

I'm not a fan of hiking or camping, and I do love tacky roadside attractions, but if you have to choose between this and the badlands, go with the badlands. You'll spend more time hunting for parking, dodging people on the crowded street (it's really more two blocks of crappy stores all selling the same trinkets, with an old-west theme, not a drug store), trying to find food that isn't cafeteria quality (good luck), an so on. The only reason to go here is so that when your friends tell you they are going on a cross country trip, you can warn them to not waste their time. I wouldn't even say that it's fun for kids. My first visit was I believe 1962 on the way from Minneapolis to Hammond, Oregon at 9. In 1966 we moved to Wall (service brat,) where we stayed until moving to CT in 1967 when they first added animatronics behind the drug store. The signs to Wall Drug were everywhere in the 60s not like today and all they had was about 6 parking spaces in the front. I believe the movie house (Rialto?) was to the left. There was a market and a bar, the Sportsman's, to the left. Almost everything has changed, not necessarily for the better (my Mom actually used to bake pies for them.) After, a 46-year absence in 2013 I took my wife and daughter there and it has become without any shred of doubt perhaps the most egregiously overdone tourist trap in the world. When I was kid it was kitsch, curious and historical, now it's all about the Benjamins. Read more

This place is huge! I found driving through South Dakota to be super boring, so this was a welcome stop. I was traveling with my mom who had visited Wall Drug 51 years ago during a family vacation. She enjoyed her 5 cent coffee -- and try a donut! So good. Read more
The only redeeming quality about this over priced and over advertised stop is their donuts. Read more
I usually have been to Wall Drug during the off season, but peak season is unruly. No parking, people are in their own world trying to get the tacky souvenir for Uncle Bob, and it is all the same stuff you can get anywhere else in the Badlands and Black Hills. That said it is an American Icon and as such I usually stop. Probably will not do it in the summer again. Read more
Tourist trap. Way too crowded with small doorways, cramped spaces and too many people blocking everywhere. The only redeeming feature is the donuts. Read more
We stopped here just before going into the Badlands. We ate lunch...of course, a buffalo burger. The salad was way too expensive for what you get. But the paintings are really pretty and you can spend a couple of hours just going from shop to shop to see everything. We even took pictures outside where there's a stage coach and other things to see. Fun place. Read more
Wall Drug is a kooky place. And wow do they have a lot of signs. We had originally planned to explore the area but opted to spend more time in the Badlands (I don't regret it). We DID go to Wall Drug for dinner and we got burgers. I kinda wish I'd gone ahead and had the bison burger, but our regular beef burgers were delicious! In going there for dinner we did see a few of the sights. Again, great burgers! Read more
Definitely worth a stop! A must see for all the kitsch. Sad to get there and find out the soda fountain is only open in summer season. Read more

This is one of those places in America you have to stop at just to say you stopped at. I know it's absurd, but true. I mean lets be honest, if you're driving out this way to begin with you can't be in that much of a hurry, or you would have flown. There isn't much to visit in either direction so it's time to stretch your legs. Plus, there's all sorts of cool little souvenirs you can buy, and maybe even a cowboy hat. Read more

There is so much hype about Wall Drug that we figured we were this far into South Dakota we had to stop. I guess that this just is not my thing. It is so far from anything that I want to do that while I can usually make any experience fun, I had a real hard time doing that. I was amazed that they were able to fill up so much floor space with so many trinkets and nicknacks. We walked through many of the different rooms and I just found it overwhelming. I am sure it you can dream of it, it is probably somewhere in the store, just hope that you can find it. Decided to get an ice cream and head back out onto highway 90. I got the Cherry Cheese cake and was underwhelmed with it as well. After eating it I had a weird film in my mouth that I had to break out the crackers from the car food bag to get rid of. If you want to say you did it, stop and see if it is for you. Next time I will just keep on moving down the highway. Read more
It’s all that it claims to be. It’s a tourist destination at this point but the original fame and appeal are still there. Kooky and fun are the best two adjectives to describe it. It’s a good stop for some free entertainment if you have children. Read more
